Lighten a Tikka bolt lift with new shroud?

Ok, I was way off. It’s not the headspace. The back of the bolt where the firing indicator slides into the deep recess. That’s where it’s tight. I added some TW25B to the recess in the back of the bolt and it’s smoother, and not making grinding noise. I think a light polish to that area is in order.

Lighten a Tikka bolt lift with new shroud?

Been playing with it for a while at home. Took it apart, took the firing pin out, cleaned everything and gave some spots a light touch of TW25B. Seemed to work better, or at least more or less the same. Decided to cycle it a bunch and now I’m having a very hard and stiff bolt lift. Almost like...

Lighten a Tikka bolt lift with new shroud?

Interesting. The plastic shroud on my T3 doesn’t have a spring to my recollection. I’ll check again tonight. I did add a little TW25B to some areas last night, including the lugs, which helped a little.

    Chargemaster Lite - overthrow issues?

I have one of these inserts and it really cut down on overthrows. Like maybe 1 out of 100 now rather than 15-20. I use a ton of H4350 and it’s much better than without the insert. That being said, the motor started making noise and the spindle was turning slow and erratically recently. Called...

Lighten a Tikka bolt lift with new shroud?

I saw those. They’re around $35-$40 I think. I was going to get one of those, but wanted to check if I’d be missing out by not going with something “custom” other than looks. If function remains the same, I’ll always opt for the cheaper option. I’m about function, not looks, especially on a...

Lighten a Tikka bolt lift with new shroud?

The swept back Sterks have always looked a little goofy to me, but if having a swept back handle helps a lot with bolt lift, I’ll buy one soon enough.

Lighten a Tikka bolt lift with new shroud?

Roger, so basically they’re known to be on the stiff side, but more time cycling and a longer bolt handle helps.

Lighten a Tikka bolt lift with new shroud?

Just picked up a Tikka T3. It’s new and unfired. One thing I noticed is the bolt lift is a bit on the heavy side, and it has sort of a two position bolt closing. Not the smoothest bolt opening/closing, but the action is very smooth. The T3 still has the plastic bolt shroud, and I’m wondering if...

Accessories WTB: Pic Rail for Tikka T3

Just seeing if anyone has a Pic rail for a Tikka T3 they no longer need before I buy new. Only interested in models that have a recoil lug as well (MT tactical or similar). I’m fine with either a 0 MOA or 20. Feel free to PM me. Thanks.

    Looking for a Tikka T3X 300 wm/wsm

In the market for a lighter weight moose/elk rifle. Specifically looking at Tikka’s and in stainless. Let me know if you’re looking for some Xmas cash! Not looking to spend a ton on custom rifles or higher end guns. I have some customs and this is more of a beater mountain/swamp gun. If it’s...

    Magnum hunting rifle dilemma

I just checked out a Bergara B14 Hunter online. Any perspectives on that? Uses 700 aftermarket accessories and has a threaded barrel for a brake. Seems like maybe a decent option over a Tikka, but I’ll likely be in the same cost range as buying a blued T3X and have it threaded and brake. Cost to...

    Magnum hunting rifle dilemma

For moose no, we killed three bulls and all were under 150 yds. For elk, yes sir. We regularly kill them at 500-600 yards. I shot a cow at 500 last year with my custom 6.5, but I’m leery about taking a poke on a big bull with a 6.5 beyond 400.

    Magnum hunting rifle dilemma

I thought about that. It has a Winchester plastic stock that’s perfectly useable and a Limbsaver pad I installed. I have used a smith on a few occasions to build my custom 6.5 and work on other guns. He quoted me $600-ish for a new Benchmark barrel installed and around $150 for one of his custom...

    Magnum hunting rifle dilemma

I might try that. I got the gun several years ago before I did any reloading. My buddy gave me some different loads to try and settled on 200 gr accubonds with something like 73 grains of RL19. They group excellent but only move 2580-2590. I bought some 230 ELD-X and tried a few test loads...

    Magnum hunting rifle dilemma

Beautiful rifle, but out of my price range if I’m going to pay for another AK trip. I’m fortunate that my buddy lives there and has a couple planes, but it’s still not a cheap hunt. I also like the .338 WM as I have all the reloading gear for it, but there’re not easy to find in a lower cost...
