Sidearms & Scatterguns Guns and coffee

H&K VP9 (OD) with a red-fiber front sight, mag well, and in Inforce APL carried daily in a Tier1 Concealed Axis Slim. From left to right, Technivorm Moccamaster, KitchenAid electric burr grinder, jar full of Lavazza medium roast espresso beans, and a Breville Barista Express. Considering that...

Who would you have built a quality rifle?

I don't think it's been exclusively said, but for us to correctly opine on price it helps drastically to know what is included with the price. A top-tier action will cost $1200 to $1800 give or take. Another $400 or so for a SS barrel. Stock/Chassis, depending on options, can be as little as...

    Gunsmithing Melonited Barrel

I had a Melonited Impact Precision action and had the barrel Cerakoted an equivalent black. I'm picky, and while I could tell under close inspection that they were different (in sheen, not color). It wasn't obvious from anything more than 6 inches away. Cerakote is your answer and most...

Build a kids rifle - poll added for caliber, scope input requested

We both really like the Bravo, it's great looking, comes with a lot of accessories to make life easy, and is a comfortable stock in my opinion (I know some hate the plastic cheek piece, but I find it comfortable).

Build a kids rifle - poll added for caliber, scope input requested

Built my son's first 'real' rifle last year when he turned 10 as well. Bought a Howa 1500 heavy barrel in .223 and put it in a KRG Bravo. Threw a Vortex scope on it that I'm not happy with (will replace it at some point in the future). Trigger is stock, I threw on a Magpul bipod (very happy...

    Precision Rifles.....show em!!

I'm perusing this thread and keep coming back to this post/pic. I'm not a collector by any means. I view my firearms as tools and typically have 1 tool per job (the exception being shotguns where I have two clay-busting 12-gauges so I can shoot with friends/family at the same time). That part...

    PRS Build

I'd shorten the barrel down to 20 or 22 inches. If you needed the velocity, that'd be one thing. But you're giving up accuracy for velocity you don't need with that cartridge and PRS distances.

KRG Bravo, Howa 1500 varmint in .223

I took the sling stud off, attached the 2" pic rail that came with my Bravo, and put a Magpul bipod on it that I'm quite happy with. That said, a Harris will interface just fine with that sling stud. Yes, the bolt stop is the only issue I had. Great gun. Soft recoiling, accurate, my son...

KRG Bravo, Howa 1500 varmint in .223

Oooooh, I have this exact build. Yes, I had to cut the bolt stop with a Dremel. I accidentally missed my intended mark by a fair amount but there was plenty of leeway so everything's fine. I never bothered looking into a .308 bolt stop, it took literally 8 minutes to chop the back end off of...

Rifle Competition Events NYC-Area LR Comps

I live in Westchester actually (just outside of White Plains). SheepDog was a significant part of my plans for DOPE workup/practice as I believe it's the closest 1K range to me. I'll be checking out the other places you mentioned, thanks. Where is everyone's 'local' range? I'm at Cherry...

Rifle Competition Events NYC-Area LR Comps

Finally have a usable long range weapon system. Will be spending this winter building DOPE and getting some much needed time behind the rifle. Really want to get my feet wet competing next year. What options are there in and around the greater NYC area? And by "around", let's consider it a...

    SABATTI URBAN SNIPER

Smart phone has no built in sensors to read that data. They rely on data sent over the internet from other sources. I get strange results on that front, like my phone telling me its currently partly cloudy while I'm actively being rained on heavily. Agree that a Kestrel isn't necessary, but...

    SABATTI URBAN SNIPER

For the record, I don't recommend a Kestrel for the wind. I have a base model one that I use for density altitude, baro, and temp - all info for the DOPE/log book.

    SABATTI URBAN SNIPER

If I were you, I'd be looking for Remington 700s, Tikka T3s, Savage SAs, and Howa 1500s. Those actions have the best after-market support as far as chassis systems and stocks already inletted to fit them. You want something with a factory heavy barrel. If you can find used, that would be...

    SABATTI URBAN SNIPER

I'm going to take a step back and ask you what you are trying to do, what are you trying to achieve? As someone else state, "long range gun" is an extremely broad term. Some people consider AR-15s to be 25-200 yard weapon systems and think that 400 yards is "long range", while others are...
