Brakes n Suppressor's question for users

    1. Generally it isn't *as* loud right behind the gun because the ports generally direct the shock wave outward -- and some brakes are louder than others, but yeah I think it is safe to say any brake that does the job of reducing heavy-ish recoil is going to be louder to the shooter. I would...

Rifle Scopes Second Focal Plane Correction Question

If you need to correct 2 moa you dial 2 moa... You just can't measure 2 moa using the reticle without using a 'calibrated' zoom setting (either the default, which you should verify, or zoom you've self-calibrated).

Can't help you there, but if for no other reason than 'looking weird', the BA brake would be kind of odd on an AR (I suppose it would work just fine though).

As a BA owner, I'd second that -- not because of any accuracy concerns, but because now that I have the can, I really never shoot my bolt gun without it, and cleaning the carbon out of the damn brake/mount becomes a chore (not that I'm good about it, but before long I have no choice...)

Rifle Scopes Kind of a let down.... Vortex Viper

ORD, fyi, I wasn't trying to correct you or anything, your post wasn't visible yet when I wrote my reply.

Rifle Scopes Kind of a let down.... Vortex Viper

Not likely, the guts of an FFP scope are quite a bit different than SFP (also why it is more expensive). Vortex will take care of you though.

    XLR Chassis Stock

Why would you want to put an inferior stock on the XLR?

which chassis to get mcree or xlr

In my opinion, the tubular hand guard on the xlr adds some real flexibility and options, especially for positional shooting.

I'm not him, but ran a CDI on my Savage before I switched to a chassis. Did the job just fine (or as well as the mags you use allow, anyway). His inlet job was very nice (and fast) too.

If you don't know what your muzzle velocity is, 2700ish fps should get you ballpark.

    Ear Protection problem

When not shooting suppressed, I ALWAYS double up on ear pro. Electronic ear pro with the volume turned way up over plugs works great. Even if your muffs usually work fine, it only takes it slipping off one time to really ruin your day. During a match I once had my muffs get pulled off one...

    Any regrets going custom?

I don't know if I'd recommend a 'custom' for a getting-into-stuff gun (unless you got the kind of money that those kinds of purchases are no big deal).. simply because the best part of 'custom' is getting exactly what suites your body/style/preferences/type of shooting. If you're just starting...

Rifle Scopes Could use some help from people with astigmatism

Yup, get some glasses. For shooting, I recommend a pair of Rudy Project shades with RX inserts. What I did was order about 5-6 different styles from Rudy, found the ones that felt best behind the gun and with ear pro, kept the pair I liked and returned the rest. Then I ordered the RX...

    Any regrets going custom?

One of the most important aspects of 'custom' is the customization -- everything can be exactly how you want it (within the limits of budget, etc). The thing is, if you're new to the 'game', it takes experience to develop/understand your own preferences/needs for the kind of shooting you do...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Tactical Lever guns?

I hope you guys are ready for a giggle: Mossberg & Sons | 41026 (looks like somebody above beat me to it, oh well.... though I think the version I linked has more 'tacticool features')

Rifle Scopes Could someone explain to me what the focal plane (First and Second)?

Not an expert on that aspect, but I believe FFP is actually more difficult (ie more expensive) to manufacture -- may involve more internal lenses and such as well.

Rifle Scopes Could someone explain to me what the focal plane (First and Second)?

That's actually a SFP/FFP neutral scenario -- with SFP you can still spot misses and follow up using the reticle as a reference (as long as you don't fiddle with the magnification between shots, which you generally wouldn't do anyway). In the SFP case, the reticle doesn't necessarily...
