Question on ball powder vs cannister for your .223 hand loaders

I used to hand trickle extruded powders that gave me the best accuracy. This was before temp insensitive powders came on the market. Then I hand trickled them because I live in areas where the temps swing wildly. But ball powders really save me time and for .223/ 5.56 the useable range is around...

    Leaving ammo behind

Yeah I took a ton of penalties because I didn't follow their protocols. I got tired of the guys from the chess club telling me what was "tactical" and what wasn't. Also why would you shoot from a predesignated box? You wouldn't. I'd take shots when I could identify a threat, and distance was...

    Leaving ammo behind

In IDPA it's usually a hostage or innocent bystander. That's one of the issues I had with competitions. The shooter has no discretion to make decisions on how to handle the situation. So if the designer of the course is focused on the difficulty of getting through a course of fire in the...

    Bartlein Barrels Update

Sorry for all the troubles Frank. I'm out of large scale manufacturing, but when I was in it could be a pain. I'm sure it's exponentially worse after the pandemic AND world current events. Hang in there Bud, and thanks for the update.

Has anyone thought of leaving the US for greener pastures?

Moving out of the US would be like moving from Oregon back to the midwest for me. Sure the cost of living might be great. The midwest, at least Iowa, would have far better politics which would be an added advantage. But the ability for me to do the outdoors activities in wide open spaces would...

feedback on replacement stock for Ruger American

I just handled the MDT Mossberg stock again. It actually feels pretty good.

feedback on replacement stock for Ruger American

We have one a Mossberg LR Tactical at the shop. It's nice although I think the length of pull one both the KRG and Magpul can be adjusted shorter. which is important if you want to shoot with a more modern rifle position. Mid chest verses in the shoulder pocket. I feel like the KRG Bravo is...

Another option is a Boyd's laminated stock. They have bottom metal for AICS style mags.

feedback on replacement stock for Ruger American

I have a KRB Bravo for my Rem 700. I like it but manipulating the bolt is slower than a traditional hunting stock due to the pistol grip. I installed a Magpul on a customer's Ruger American 6.5 CM. They liked it a lot, the only complaint is it's much heavier than the factory stock.

Prs rifles beginner/budget and if the remington 700 is worth getting off the shelf in 2024?

Pretty much the same price if he chose a Remarms 700. I chose a Remington but a Howa would be great also. I prefer the Howa bolt angle and the M16 style extractor. But rebarreling is potentially cheaper on the Remington. I went to Remington's armorer school so that's why I went with Remington on...

    SD's in .223 /5.56

I stopped using it, but in the past I've used the Lee Factory Crimp die in .223/ 5.56 heavy loads. It did seem to help with ES/SD's. All tested on Oehler Ballistics lab.

    Post shoot after action

At least with a real taser, not a stun gun, he could of got full body lock on the perp. I don't think the shooter was ready to use lethal force. non-lethal is easier to commit to.

    Post shoot after action

Well it looks like the driver/ worker noticed the car jacker coming around the other side of the truck to get to the driver's side. So he should of secured the truck or at least the keys which I assume were inside the truck. He had open air shots and waited until the guy was behind cover. If you...

Hunting calibers and barrel life: 223 vs 243 vs 22-250

California it was condors. Now the big push is for all raptors. Eagles came into play a while ago. And there are even some so called hunting groups and manufactures jumping on board.

Hunting calibers and barrel life: 223 vs 243 vs 22-250

To the OP where are you located in California? Are you going to focus purely on hunting coyotes? I'm starting to wonder if you should concentrate on a 0-200 yard shot. If so then you could get by with a moderately price rifle/ scope and get an electronic caller to hunt with.

Hunting calibers and barrel life: 223 vs 243 vs 22-250

The OP mentioned elk also. Taking that into account along with mono bullets being required I'd lean more towards a 308 Win. Just use whatever ammo you're going to hunt elk with for yotes, deer, elk. Get a good set of binos, you'll you them more than anything while hunting. Use hand calls and try...

Hunting calibers and barrel life: 223 vs 243 vs 22-250

Yeah it's been in the works for decades. People are pretty ignorant to think it can't happen where they are at. California used to be a red state with a huge firearms industry there.
