    Thank you, Darayavaus. It wasn't "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep". I read that, too, back in 1966; I remember because I read some of Boyington's Japanese phrases to a classmate, Chris Asami, for translation. But you've given me an idea... It seems obvious to me that I must be disremembering the title...

    I'm almost positive this isn't the book nor author. I don't remember "my author" testing planes (nor even being in the service) before the war started. If Wikipedia is to be believed, Guyton spent his war years at home testing and developing warbirds for combat and didn't serve in a combat unit...

    I'm trying to find a book I think read when I was in high school (class of '68). I think it was published in the 1950s. I'm sure the book wasn't published after 1970. I thought the title was: "Whistling Death: Corsair!" or "Corsair! Whistling Death" but I can't even find an internet page...
