Your advice is needed, please... It's been 25 years since I shopped for a scope...

I haven't shopped for a scope for myself in a long time. I have a couple GA Precision .308s set up for long range shooting outfitted with old Nightforce scopes. That's all I really know--.308s-- my .22LR expertise could fit in a thimble upside down. A friend wants to get into .22LR "long range"...

    Education system sucks

I'm gonna repost this just as an example that it's not only that some people don't have a head for math. Some don't even care... VERY old family friends wanted my wife to teach their two granddaughters how to bake cookies (as an Xmas tradition). Here's the conversation I remember: my wife...

Do you know the title of this book: about an F4U Corsair pilot?

Thank you, Darayavaus. It wasn't "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep". I read that, too, back in 1966; I remember because I read some of Boyington's Japanese phrases to a classmate, Chris Asami, for translation. But you've given me an idea... It seems obvious to me that I must be disremembering the title...

Do you know the title of this book: about an F4U Corsair pilot?

I'm almost positive this isn't the book nor author. I don't remember "my author" testing planes (nor even being in the service) before the war started. If Wikipedia is to be believed, Guyton spent his war years at home testing and developing warbirds for combat and didn't serve in a combat unit...

Do you know the title of this book: about an F4U Corsair pilot?

I'm trying to find a book I think read when I was in high school (class of '68). I think it was published in the 1950s. I'm sure the book wasn't published after 1970. I thought the title was: "Whistling Death: Corsair!" or "Corsair! Whistling Death" but I can't even find an internet page...

    Our stupid stupid future voters.

Sorry to say this video could be real... personal experience tells me so: My wife has a great nephew thrice removed; he was 28 years old when he asked me this and HE WAS SERIOUS--"I'm playing a Vietnam War 'RPG' and have to choose a side; should I be the Germans, Japanese, or the English? Who...

    401K down 15%, Advice?

I agree with most of the others--DON'T SELL ANYTHING in your portfolio during times like these. This is the absolute worst time to sell; if the market drops further after you've sold, it won't make a damn bit of difference to you because you've already locked in your losses. The only "advantage"...

    Crafty nerds, I need you

If it was from my Gramma, I'd set it up as some kind of display away from (juvenile) hands. WAY too precious to subject to damage. Plastic replicas of that style are available on eBay for small change. It's called a Ganine or Gothic chess set, and if I had a need to teach kids with something...

All Hail the New Dr Who

I "stay out of it", too. So long as folks don't wave their righteous interracial-marriage or sexual preference in my face, I don't give a damn; aint none of my business, and it doesn't affect me personally. Hell, MY marriage is interracial. But I wonder (in a semantics way) at your definition...

All Hail the New Dr Who

British TV is even worse than American networks when it comes to wokeness. I can't believe it. I was watching reruns of my two favorite TV mystery series (from BBC), "Endeavour" and "Inspector Lewis" during the lockdown. If you pay close attention to the broadcasts, you'll notice that there is...

    Funny stories from the workplace

I hated working in Silicon Valley IT. Talking to our Indian overseas staff in order to configure "cloud" hardware was always excruciating. It did leave me with a good story though... I had to create an account once for one of the new-hire ragheads. The software was set so that I'd have to...

Maggie’s Funny & awesome pics, vids and memes thread (work safe, no nudity)

Oops. It's, "the engineer asked...". The joke involves an ophthalmologist, accountant (or attorney if you like), and an engineer. (Google "and the engineer asks why can't they play at night?" and you'll see several versions of this oldie.)
