    not sure what you mean about the shim pack. Even the 3/4-24 peel washer goes up the barrel almost to gas block. Are you talking about creating a false shoulder somehow?     You guys think threading barrel 5/8-24 so that it has a shoulder is a bad idea. Nothing for the Thunder Beast brake to shoulder on. edit. Rethreading probably puts me under 16 inches so that looks no go.

    Based on help from shifty the vortex defender seems to be a better option. Maybe not optimal but Better than the butler creek. Also lifetime guarantee. So can’t argue with that. thanks for the heads up shifty.
