Hornady 95 grain SST or Barnes 85 Grain TSX

Have any of you used both of these bullets on deer, or similar sized animals? If so, how did each perform. I've been shooting the SST's out of a .243 for a couple of years now. I really have been pretty happy with them for the most part. They are pretty cheap which is nice, I get consistent...

    Rifle Scopes Burris or ss

Re: Burris or ss I also have both a SS 3-9x42 and a Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 as well as a FFII in 3-9x40. Each one has their pro's and con's. I'd also like to mention that the Burris FFII is made in the Philippines, not China as stated above. Anyway, the FFII has quite a bit better...

Rifle Scopes SWFA 3-9x42 or 5-20x50 for a dual purpose rifle?

I've got a Savage Model 10 hunting rifle that while not super light, isn't exactly heavy either. I've currently got a SWFA 3-9x42 mounted on it, and it did make a noticeable difference in weight over the Nikon Monarch that was previously on it, but I'm okay with how it is right now. What I love...

    243

Re: 243 My deer load is 40.3 grains of IMR 4831 topped with a 95 grain Hornady SST bullet. I've used both Winchester and CCI primers with this load and great luck. It shoots sub moa groups for me, and tends to anchor deer. If the deer do run, they don't seem to make it more than 10-15 yards...

Thoughts on a Firearms company like this

Re: Thoughts on a Firearms company like this I don't see the attraction to current production Remington rifles, for many many reasons, but for some reason some people still insist on buying them.

Rifle Scopes Burris 30mm Signature rings

Re: Burris 30mm Signature rings I'm using these on my hunting rifle with a SWFA SS 3-9x42, and used the 1" version of these rings with a Nikon scope for a year prior to using these. They work excellent and I've been fairly hard on my rifle, and never had any issues with them moving, coming...

Hunting & Fishing ballistic tips, after the shot...

Re: ballistic tips, after the shot... I have shot several deer with a 95 grain Hornady SST out of my .243 Winchester. Infact, every deer I've killed with a rifle in the last couple of years has been with this round over 40.3 grains of IMR 4831 and a few friends have also killed deer with my...

Rifle Scopes Tip for protecting your scopes

Re: Tip for protecting your scopes I've never thought of wax paper. I have used some electrical tape on some .22's though on the inside of the rings. I don't really know why, but I saw someone else doing it, so decided to try it. It's always been with cheapo Weaver or similar rings, and it's...

Hunting & Fishing one and only one rifle for any north american game

Re: one and only one rifle for any north american game 30-06 for me. I love the 30-06 round, however, that being said, I don't use it for most of my hunting. However, if I wanted a round to hunt any size game, that's for sure what I'd go with.

Rifle Scopes Scope Shield Alaska review

For the past several weeks I’ve been using a Scope Shield Alaska scope cover to protect my SWFA SS 3-9x42. I’d previously been using the Butler Creek flip up covers, but after breaking several newer ones, I realized the current production ones weren’t going to work for the type of hunting I do...

Rifle Scopes scope advice for a .223

Re: scope advice for a .223 Burris FFII 4.5-14x42 would be my choice. I also have a couple of Monarchs, and honestly the FFII has better glass. If you want target turrets Burris will add them for $80.

Hunting & Fishing Need GPS Recommendation

Re: Need GPS Recommendation While I'm using an old Garmin Etrex, and not one of the newer much improved models, I highly recommend Garmin. I've had experience with this handheld, as well as with an uncles 60CSX, as well as some Nuvi units in the car. I can't say that I have any complaints...

    Rifle Scopes budget youth scope

Re: budget youth scope I just so happen to have a Redfield 2-7x33 listed for sale in the classifieds. Check it out if you'd like, and make an offer. It seems to be a decent scope to get shooting, but I just am want more power. Normally, I'd recommend a FFII and I know the 2-7x35's were on...

Rifle Scopes Preventing scope ring marks. Possible?

Re: Preventing scope ring marks. Possible? Burris Signature Zee rings with the inserts do not leave ring marks. It's the way to go if you really want to avoid them.
