    Punctured Primers Help Please!

I spoke with CCI today and they told me the same thing. Maybe we spoke to the same guy? I too have used CCI 200s and BR2s interchangeably believing they have the same cup thickness. He told me the 200s have the "standard cup" and the BR2s, 250s, and military primers have the "thick" cup. He...

Gunsmithing need a gunsmith to bushing a firing pin hole on a Accuracy International, suggestions?

There are no stupid questions, although I have been accused of the occasional stupid answer.... I have been using virgin Lapua brass. When using fired brass, I only push the shoulders back approx .002. The net result is still .002 - .003 longer than virgin brass as measured by an RCBS case...

Gunsmithing need a gunsmith to bushing a firing pin hole on a Accuracy International, suggestions?

Per Tom's suggestion I reached out to AINA and they were indeed helpful. Per their direction, I reduced my loads to the point that the primer piercing stopped. Unfortunately, I can only push a 139 Scenar at 2,670 fps. Anything faster and I start piercing primers - and I've tried three...

Aiae 260 with Lapua 260 brass, 140 Amax, and H4350

I have an AI Arctic Warfare and did an OCW workup with my .260. Used Lapua brass, CCI BR2, 139 Scenars, and H4350. Accuracy nodes were at 43.2 and 42gr H4350. 43.2 gr worked well for 200 rounds and then started piercing primers. I backed off to 42gr and went 125 rounds until 1 pierced...

I'll see you at the pistol class. Your class and the dot drills got me thinking that I should do more rimfire practice as the lack of recoil unmasks all sorts of bad habits. I have an Anshutz 1813 that I picked up in Germany over 20 years ago (was not that difficult to do legally and as a...

    AI AX260 - Pierced Primer

OK - the 40.7gr load did not pierce primers but I got some minor cratering. Temps were 40F so I'm concerned what might happen during the summer. I didn't chronograph the loads, but when I true up my ballistics I'm around 2,670 fps with 139 scenars. AI offered to inspect my barrel if I send it...

Yes - you can call me the Terminator. Seriously though, there were some things that he noticed about me that I would have never figured out by myself. I told Scott that I got my money's worth in the first hour of class. Everything else was gravy. I'm sure you have all heard why shooting dot...

Folks, Just completed Scott Satterlees two day training course and learned a lot. I am also looking forward to one of his pistol classes. We are fortunate to have such an experienced trainer locally - no need to look further. Ed

    AI AX260 - Pierced Primer

And sure enough I got a pierced primer after 125 rounds. I'm going to try Zak Smith's recommended load of 40.7gr H4350. He claims to get 2800 fps from this load from a 26" barrel. He must have a faster barrel than me. EDIT: Come to think of it, there is a comedic angle to the whole thing...

Folks, As we head into Christmas and wrap up another year, I focus on the good things that happened in 2013. From a personal standpoint, I discovered this forum, the UNC matches, and made some good friends in the process. For that I am very grateful. I look forward to an even better 2014...

I'm sure you never experienced such a thing - you are too careful and exacting. Never one to push the limits. ;-)

Yes indeed - they were sitting inside my bolt. Looked just like flakes of powder. I blew my bolt body out with compressed air too.

Gunsmithing what would cause primer hits like this?

I'm having the same issue. Did you resolve it or did you go back to your .308 barrel?

Frank, Will your cleaning technique that you demonstrated in the Online Training forum address this? Or is more aggressive treatment required?

I am not turning the necks. Just a slight nudge and they go in. I don't believe I have a problem based on your description.

Here's one thing I noticed: I can drop a bullet into a fired .308 case. With my .260 I have to push it in. Is this too tight? I heard that some .260 reamer patterns came out before Lapua had their .260 brass with thicker necks. I sent a note to Dave Tooley who makes the barrels for AI to...
