Opinions, Please, on Turning a Very Nice 1903A3 into a 1903A1

Some weeks ago I found and acquired a really nice RA 1903A3, ser. no. 4.1mm (late '43, I think). It both looks good and shoots even better with both HXP M2 Ball and Hornady M1 Garand Match 168gr A-MAX. I'm thinking of turning it into 1903A1, which would require the removal of the rear sight and...

Anyone know anything about Italian mfg Cowboy guns?

I have experience with several makers and models/types of guns. I currently have two Uberti Colt 1860 Army replicas, one 1858 Remington replica and a Uberti 1873 with Turnbull color case-hardening. The fit, finish, and function are all excellent, and they are very close to historically accurate...

    Range finder

I've used and liked the Vortex Ranger 1500. It's on sale at Cabela's right now for $329. Good luck, Harry PS-I'm considering a SigSauer Kilo 2400ABS to replace my Vortex Ranger 1500, which I sold. FH

AX Rear Upgrade Kit for AT rifles

I think a rapid adjustment buttstock such as this is very useful for a rifle that has multiple users. Since I'm the only one that shoots my AT, once I got it adjusted for me, I have no need to change it. Now the appearance of the AX stock is very cool...the utility to single user rifles, not so...

POI shift when changing barrels between calibers and back?

Probably load and barrel dependent. When I changed my26" Tooley Bartlein .260 to my new .308 Tooley Bartlein .308, 24" bbl, using FGMM in each, my poi shift was 1-1/2" up and 1-1/2" right at 100 yards. 142gr SMKs in .260, 168 SMKs in .308. YMMV. Harry

AIAT worth it just changed burned up barrels?

I just picked up a Tooley Bartlein barrel in .308Win for my AT, which I bought in .260 Remington. I took both barrels to the range last week...I changed barrels in roughly 1 minute. I can carry the rifle and second barrel, both well secured in my Eberlestock E-2b drag bag and my Allen torque...

I have several R700 SPSs. All of mine got B&C Medalists, Timney 510s, and scopes appropriate to their tasks....Vortexes, Leupy (hunting), or NightForces. I use Harris swivel bipeds in 6-9" size. I skim bed them in the B&Cs. All are free-floated. Good shooters all. FH

Remington 700 Recall on X-Mark Pro Triggers

A shout-out to Timney. I ordered replacements for my Remmies direct...they preset at your requested pull weight, deliver promptly and they work as advertised. The tootsie roll pop is a sweet extra. Great company. FH

    Ruger M77 30-06?

I have two Ruger 77RSIs, one in .308 and one in .270. Both shoot sub-MOA and, given their weight, size and handiness with Leupy VX3 2.5-8x36 scopes, are wonderful hunting rifles. I was going to use the .308 with 180gr AccuBonds this late elk season but didn't draw a tag. Love the rifle and it's...

Remington 700 Recall on X-Mark Pro Triggers

The whole thing gives me a headache. I found out about the recall from a forum (why do I register with manufacturers?), I contact, get labels quickly, boxes weeks later (unannounced) with no spec as to how long this will all take. Instructions say, remove all attachments (scopes, rings, etc) put...

    Remington 700 .308

As for a 5R, you should contact Mile High Shooting Accessories. They are a supporter here, set me up with my 5R, scope, AIAX chassis and some other things last year...truly good guys. That said, if your husband is primarily a hunter, you may want to get him an SPS stainless with spotter weight...

    remington still GTG?

All my Rem 700s have been restocked, 3 with B&C Medalists and my 5R in an AICS AX chassis. All have free-floated barrels, 2 (an XCR II and a SPS-Varmint in .308) have been glass-bedded. All are sub-MOA shooters with the SPS-Vs consistently between 1/2 MOA - 3/4 MOA for 5 shots with carefully...

    MagnetoSpeed V3 Accuracy Rating

I have used both the V2 and V3 versions with the same rifle and ammo four days apart. As an example of consistency between 5-shot groups with each, my average speed differed by only 4 fps and the standard deviation differed by 6fps between the two units. This is statistically insignificant. As...

So what brand chronograph is the hide favorite?

I recently got a Magnetospeed V2, based on many of the comments in this thread. It is a neat unit with a couple of design issues. Yesterday, I broke the buckle on the attachment strap (kinda chintzy plastic), a problem solved by the newly released V3, which uses a metal buckle. I've already...

    Remington 700 5R .308 milspec HORRIBLE ACCURACY!!!!!

I have two Rem 700 .308s, a SPS Varmint glass-bedded and free-floated in a Bell & Carlson A5 stock and a factory-Cerakoted 5R mounted in an AI AX chassis by the guys at Mile High Shooting Accessories (as good a shop as I've ever dealt with). Both shoot 0.5" 5-shot groups at 100 yds with .308 Win...
