    7005r or fun spr

I have a 5R in an AICS AX chassis with NightForce NXS 3.5-15x56 glass. With its preferred loads (Lapua brass, 42.2 gr IMR 4064, CCI BR2 primer, 175 gr SMK) it is a <0.5 MOA shooter. I recommend this set-up. FH

    700 5r tact setup

I picked up a Cerakoted R700 5R last year from Mile High Shooting Accessories. They put the barreled action into an AICS AX chassis, put on a 20 MOA NightForce base, NightForce Medium rings and a NightForce 3.5-15x56 scope. As is, it is a great shooter, at 100 yards, and seems to particularly...

    Remington 700 5R .308 milspec HORRIBLE ACCURACY!!!!!

My Rem 700 5R will shoot 0.25-0.5" @ 100 yards with 175gr SMKs over 42.2gr of IMR 4064. It is a 0.5" or better shooter with 175gr FGGM. FH

Best 308 factory cartridge for 700 SPS Tactical

I benchmark all my rifles that have Federal Gold Medal Match made for them with Fed GMM. In .308 Win, I try both 168gr and 175gr. Black Hills Match is another excellent choice. This benchmark gives me a standard to try to improve upon with my hand loads, and if I can't, that recipe for that...

    help sighting in rifle.

I do all my sighting in and load testing off a bipod and generally use a rear bag. Squeezing or loosening the bag takes care of consistent elevation. It certainly sounds like your rest is the problem. FH

    A Useful Range Day

I'm sure that many of you, like me, like to tinker with loads for your precision rifles. While I have had several useful loads for my Rem 7005R and Rem 700 SPS-V using a variety of 168gr match bullets, I've not yet found a useful load for 175gr MatchKings...until the other day. To make a longer...

Does anyone out there shoot budget rifles for long range <1000 dollars

My R700-V is glass-bedded in a B&C A5 stock with. A Vortex PST 6-24x50 FFP MOA/MOA scope with Leupy STD rings and bases. great shooter. FH PS-I've got a spare B&C M40 stock with BDL bottom metal that I may use with a R700-V ADL in .243. R700s are pretty good barreled actions at their...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Pistol for Grizzly Bear Country

I have a S&W 629...but if I was worried about Alaskan Brown Bears, I'd get a S&W .460 Magnum. Practice with .45 Colt or .454 Casull, .460 when you're in the woods. FH

Has anyone not gained accuracy switching to a high end barrel?

My Rem 5R has a 1:11.25" twist. FH EDIT: my 5R produces 5-shot groups of 0.6" or less at 100 yards with my hand loads of 44.0 gr of VV N550 under 168 gr SMKs and has produced a few 1/2" groups of 5 shots with Hornady Superperformance 175gr Match factory loads. Factory rifles can be...

    My Savage 10 FCP-K .308 Long Range

I have the same scope. At the price point, it's unbeatable. My only issue so far is the relatively short "eye box" for me (I.e., the short distance for which I get a good complete sight picture, as compared to a longer range of distance for my NFC). Nevertheless, it's a great scope for the...

    Effective .308 range?

I'm a simple guy. You ask about kill range and mention deer hunting. Now a whitetail has a vital area about the size of a 9" pie plate. At what range, and from what field positions, can you keep all your shots, WITH HUNTING AMMO, inside of a 9" pie plate. I have a number of hunting rifles with...

Winchester Model 70, whats wrong with them?

I have two Win M70EWs as my preferred go-to hunting rifles. One is a 7mm RM while the other is a .30-06. They are both sub-MOA, totally reliable, SS and B&C Medalist stocks, fitted with Zeiss Conquest Rapid Z scopes and I have total confidence in both. I believe the FNH Winnies are the best yet...

Rifle Scopes I let the nitrogen out of my Scope...how to refill it?

Adults recognize that when you screw up, you own up and you pay up. Children lie. If you broke it, why pretend you didn't? They'll figure it out anyway...how do you think they fill these things? FH

Rifle Scopes Scope ring height question - Vortex PST on R700 clearance

I happened to have both Leupy STD bases (2 piece) and 30mm medium rings, so I just used those with no xxMOA adjustment on the same scope. Set-up works great and should allow useful shooting to 800 yards. Harry

Rifle Scopes Scope for my Remmy 700p?

I have a 700 SPS-V on which I've put a 6-24x50 FFP MOA/MOA Vortex Viper PST. For ranges out to 800 yards, I have mine mounted with Leupy STD bases and medium 30mm rings (for distances out to 800 yards, you can get by without an xxMOA base. Scope cover is a little bit of a tight fit on the...

Rifle Scopes Which Spuhr for AIAX and 50mm NF?

I have a 20 MOA NF rail and med. high NF rings an my AICS AX on which I've mounted a3.5-15x56 NXS. Bikini takes a little work on the objective bell but is satisfactory. The whole set-up works really well. Harry

Hornady 178 BTHP, Has any one had any success with these?

I just tried, on a whim, a box of Hornady Superperformance Match with 178gr BTHPs from my Rem 5R. This is a 5-shot group at 100 yards. I'll be working up loads with 178gr A-MAXs...my best .308 loads with A-MAX 168s use 44.0gr of RL15 so I'll be starting at 42.0gr of RL15 and working up. I'm...

Over the top customer service from Mile High

+1 on the folks at Mile High. I purchased a Rem 700 5R/AICS AX/NightForce NXS Scope, rings and base two weeks ago, a bunch of accessories earlier this week. Their willingness to spend time, offer advice and the like is second to none. I recommend them very highly...deal with them with...
