Hunting & Fishing Varmit bullets and whitetails?

I've shot 3 whitetails that weighed about 125-150 punds field dressed at 350 yds using a 22-250 w/ 50gr ballistic tips going 3800fps mv. All 3 deer ran 50 to 100 yds with well placed shots to the lungs and none had a noticeable blood trail. I wouldn't use varmint bullets again. Also, how big are...

    Federal .308 168gr vs 175gr accuracy?

The 168s were developed for 300m competitions and their design causes them to lose stability/tumble when going transonic and subsonic. As a result, the 175 smk was developed to be stable thru transonic to subsonic velocities. I've never seen much difference in grouping between either round...

Tikka CTR 308 vs Rem 700 PSS / LTR

I've a Tikka T3x CTRin 6.5cm, and i've owned a Reington 700 LTR in 308. Without any modifications, the Tikka actions are much smoother than stock Remington 700s. Tikkas also have way more features than the old school Police and LTR such as oversized boltknob, side bolt release, threaded muzzle...

    22LR Barrel Cleaning

Eoddave27 and Frankr, yes i would suggest a good cleaning of the chamber and throat area but not the bore. Another test is to just keep shooting. I noticed the 1 cold shot flier to be further from the group after more rounds. When i clean the throat, the flier would start to show up, maybe only...

    22LR Barrel Cleaning

I agree with not needing to clean most smallbores to maintain accuracy. However, what i've experienced with multiple rifles is a first shot flyer that is way off, not cold shooter error. I did some research and found an explanation in rimfirecentral where the thread stated that the throat gets...

    New here, bought a Savage.

how far are you planning to shoot? there are some excellent cheaper options for the 55gr loads which would serve you well out to 300 or 400 yds. If you want to shoot past that think about the heavier loads <65grains.

    Need a good 22-250

Like others mentioned, the 22-250 is a barrel burner (< 1,500 rounds) which can happen fast is you hit the range often. Tikka, Bergara, Howa, and Savage all make nice varmint rifles in 22-250 and pre-2007 Remingtons are usually very accurate as well. Also, the Ruger American Predator rifles are...

    Best budget range finders?

I have this one from Cabelas, it does hit trees >900yds and buildings at about 1500yds. I've been very happy with it, especially for the price. https://www.cabelas.com/product/hunting/optics/rangefinders/pc/104791680/c/104752080/sc/104525280/cabelas-intensity-range-finder/2739378.uts?slotId=10

    Hunting rig chambering?

Looks like you'll need to decide if you want a short action magnum or short action standard cartridge. if you wanna go short action magnum, maybe 7wsm or similar short action standard, maybe 7mm-08 or 308, or even 338 federal.

    A few questions on a 16.5" 6.5CM

    A few questions on a 16.5" 6.5CM

short barreled 6.5's can go pretty far i think most are favoring the lighter 120 to 130 grain bullets for the short barreled 6.5cm

Tikka CTR vs CZ 557 vs Steyr SSG 69

plus, the 3-18 and 4.5-27 are almost exactly the same size, so you're not saving hardly any weight or length going with the 4.5-27

Tikka CTR vs CZ 557 vs Steyr SSG 69

As others suggested, for your intended uses, go with the Tikka CTR 24" 6.5 creedmoor.

Mossberg MVP Patrol 308 re- barrel to 358 Winchester

That's a good point on using the AR-10 mags. If you think a 10 round mag is enough, i'd recommend buying a Ruger american predator w/ the AICS mag for under 500 and rebarrel it. Just another option. OP, how are you figuring $250 to rebarrel? Is that for the gunsmithing only or cost of a new...

Mossberg MVP Patrol 308 re- barrel to 358 Winchester

i've about 100 rounds thru two mossberg patriots. they both worked fine for what they are, which is a budget gun. When handling them they don't feel super durable, the bolt isn't very smooth, the trigger is ok, and accuracy was ok, really nothing special all around. In my research, accuracy is...

Mossberg MVP Patrol 308 re- barrel to 358 Winchester

maybe consider a 338 federal (308 neck up to 338 cal). More choices for factory ammo, ~200 fps faster muzzle velocity w/ same grain bullet, ammo is cheaper too. Also long range ballistics aren't bad with the 200gr bullets out to 800yds

    What semi auto 308

Anyone have info on the SA Saint Victor 308 regarding accuracy and reliability? I'm interested in a lighter weight AR-10 like the victor, and my research seems to indicate its pretty solid for what it is and at the sub $1500 price point.

    Tikka 223

I put together my own qausi-ctr in 223. I have a t3x lite in 223 that i dropped in a ctr stock with ctr bottom metal that i picked up in the classifieds. I purchased a 10rd 223 ctr mag from eurooptic last yr. The combo runs pretty smooth, just make sure the rounds are seated all the way back in...
