    .223 or 22LR trainer

I'm in agreement w/ everyone else. 22lr is the most economical way to practice the fundamentals, but recoil management and reading the wind are definitely different for a 22lr vs a centerfire of any kind. For recoil management and reading the wind w/ closer results to the 6mm or 6.5mm variants...

    Help please rem 700

Remington 308s are a 12 twist except for their 5r rifles which are an 11.25 twist. Like everyone said, an match ammo by Federal, Hornady, Blackhills, Prime up to ~180 grains should work.

Rifle for Local Steel & F-Class Matches

If you do not reload, go with the 6.5 creedmoor. If you do reload, then 6.5 creedmoor is still a great option, but also a 6mm creedmoor would work well. $3K: Tikka T3x CTR 24" barrel or TacA1 in 6.5cm used Vortex Razor Gen 2 off the classifieds $6K: Accuracy Int'l AT or a custom for ~$3K...

    12x Binos vs 15x Binos

I use 12x and they work well for spotting at PRS stylel matches. If I were to have a pair of dedicated +1,000 yd binoculars then i'd go with 15x, otherwise 12x is fine.

Rifle Scopes Athlon Midas TAC 4-16x44 first impressions, and final review at bottom of thread.

I have a Midas Tac 4-16x44. Glass is very good, especially for the money. Bright and crisp image. The reticle is a bit thin at 4x. I like it at 6x if I were to hunt with it set on a low mag. Probably need to be around 10x to use the wind holds.

    12x Binos vs 15x Binos

I use 12x Vortex Diamondbacks. They work very well, no complaints. If i were to need a dedicated >1,000yd pair of binos, i'd go with 15x, but 12 has been great out to ~1200yds

Rifle Scopes Looking for a set of light hunting rings

I have both the Talley integral base ring mounts and the Nightforce ultralights. If you prefer a picatinny base and rings combo then the NF ultralights are great, they are very light rings. Otherwise the Talleys work well. Although I cannot speak to the security of the Talleys because I have...

    Tips/Advice Wanted - Modifying my 1980’s 700 in 22-250

Thanks. This is good info. My 1989 BDL in 243 will shoot same point of aim point of impact even when the barrel is very hot. I think this is associated with a square action and square barrel mating to the action face, such that where no pressure points exist. Good to know the smith confirms the...

    Tips/Advice Wanted - Modifying my 1980’s 700 in 22-250

Did LRI comment about the squareness of the action before truing? I also have a late 80s remington 700 that shoots very well. Just wondering what gunsmiths have to say about old remington 700 actions vs new ones.
