Gunsmithing I'm buying a lathe....prepare for lots of stupid questions....let's get started!

That damn bug does bight hard. Put me on speed dial and I'll help any way I can. It's really not that hard. Learn to turn/face to a specific number then thread to fit a gauge/receiver. Learning to run your new machine will be the learning curve but, it's a short one. Good luck.

Gunsmithing yes or no to calling out poor workmanship on gunsmithing work

When I first saw this post I didn't really give it much thought but, got to thinking, 460 Roland?? I know a guy that builds a lot of 460 Roland, I wonder??? I called and asked about the OP and if he had done any work for this guy. I described the pistols and the state he's from. I was told that...

    New Shooter Schooling the Boy's

This little lady also shot my suppressed MK114, it was a pretty good day for her. Not many 8 year old little girls can say they've done what she's done. She already has deer blood on her hands and greedy for more, she's a natural born killer of whitetail. Her dad has to hold her back each...

    Gunsmithing Cerakoting without blasting

Cerakote will never stick to a slick surface nor will it stick to itself. Parts that are not blasted with 120 grit AO at 60-80 psi will never be ready for cerakote. It's all about the prep. Strip it down, make the drive and blast it. Repaint, you'll be happy you did.

    New Shooter Schooling the Boy's

She's 8 years old and the daughter of another shooter I know. She got a second round hit at 675 yards Sunday. Would have been a first round hit but, she yanked the trigger on shot one. After calming her down and doing a few dry snaps she nailed it. Target was a 13" x 24" IPSC Torso. 50% shot to...

Gunsmithing yes or no to calling out poor workmanship on gunsmithing work

twoshot, were you ever offered a refund and or a buy back for the items in question? Didn't You post a similar thread on another forum and the same question asked there as well? Why didn't you just send the items back in for repairs or inspection? I already know the answer.

    Gunsmithing Rem 700 extractor type

I'd order the M-16 style and skip all others. The bolt nose recess will have to be opened up to .780"-.790" in order for all to function properly and seems to be the standard diameter required for all/99.9% of receiver manufacturers. Head space will also have to be checked/corrected as the bolt...

    Range Report Truing Ballistics question....

First, you need a Kestrel or other accurate environmental measuring device. I use a Kestrel 4500NV and find it does all I need. Stop letting the device select meteorological settings from another location, it's never the same where you're at. The accurate velocity of your load/ammo is needed...

Gunsmithing How do they do it?

RJB, PTG offers a full set of bushings from .700" to .705", you need two of each. Second, PTG offers a .500" diameter, hardened, stress relieved and ground rod just for the purpose of receiver truing. I had him make my first one, it was received so well that they started offering them. I think...

Gunsmithing How do they do it?

RJB, I really don't know you or anything about you, your shop or skill set/level but, the first thing that came to mind was error induced by your setup. To me, it is very suspect. There are much better ways to hold/check/indicate a receiver. The Manson tooling utilizes tapered bushings slipped...

Gunsmithing Rem 700 Barrel thread specs

Those threads are completely out of spec. #1. The typical / Standard OD should be 1.0625" minus .002" max. unless your receiver has been trued. Then your threads will be slightly larger but cut to match your receiver threads. #2. Thread depth of a 1.0625" x 16 thread is approximately .054"...
