Bolt grease... Mobil 1, Mobil 28, other stuff?

I use Red Mobil One High Temp, High Pressure Synthetic grease. I use so much on my stuff and clients rifles that I purchase it by the ten pack in tubes for grease guns. For individuals, the Shooters Choice Red Gun Grease in the syringe is perfect. Oils, lithium and or any other thin based stuff...

Gunsmithing changing ejection angle on m16 extractor

Take a small file or cut off wheel on a dermal and cut a relief on the top inside edge of the extractor, go slow. First, look at the extractor carefully before you take it out of the bolt and clip a case under it to see where and how it catches the rim off the case. Visualize its...

    Gunsmithing Gunsmith in central La.

Parkj5, Try Don Kiser @ Home# 318-925-4851 or Cell# 318-655-7177. He's local to me, NW LA and builds fine rifles. Me and him go way back as he's my old BR partner. He was building rifles before I was if that tells you anything. He has an FFL so he's good to go. I've been sending him my overflow...

Suppressors Surefire Socom 556 on SB rifles

Spoke to Surefire yesterday concerning this question. If using the Surefire Brake and not flash hider and have at least 1/4" behind the shoulder (as I do) it's GTG.

Gunsmithing Does rechambering/setting back a barrel give it full life again?

You'll get 30-50% at best after setting back, maybe less. After 1,000+ rounds there's too much fire cracking for there to be any long term benefit, even after cutting the old chamber off and starting over. Usually, it's not worth the expense to do this unless you can do it yourself.

Suppressors Surefire Socom 556 on SB rifles

Thanks for the pictures guys. With the suppressor mounted how far behind the mount is the locking ring on the suppressor. I have a 10" PWS and there's .250" clearance between the rear of the mount shoulder and front of the hand guard.

Suppressors Surefire Socom 556 on SB rifles

Like the title says, who's running them on SBR's. Post pictures if you have them. I'm curious as to the actual over lap on the EM socom QD mounts.

Gunsmithing Do you really need to replace the recoil lug on a 700?

Your spending $300+ on a barrel, your time and $$$$$$ to true the receiver, bed the stock and chamber the barrel. Your talking about saving a whopping $40-$50 by re-using the issued, crocked, non-flat, stamped recoil lug. Go ahead and splurge, spend the $$ and get a .250" thick custom lug...

Brakes n Suppressor's question for users

Yes, they allow suppressors as does Long Range Alley, never a problem and I've shot at both numerous times with the suppressor. Once you start shooting suppressed it's hard to go back. You can shoot by your self and leave the hearing protection at home.

Gunsmithing Which stiller action? And AW or Alpha mags?

Get the AW version, AI magazines will work with it as well, best of both worlds. The only way I order my signature receiver s now is with the AW cut if that says anything.

Brakes n Suppressor's question for users

Call sometime as I have a rifle set up for both brake and suppressor (260) and will let you shoot it to decide for your self. As far as brakes, Vias is supposed to be the quietest but, they're all loud as hell with no hearing protection, even when behind the rifle. The side vent brakes like the...

Gunsmithing Epoxy or steel bedding compound or what?

Get two headless screws that will thread into the receiver, 3" should work. These are also known as stock maker screws. You might be able to find them at an auto parts store as long bolts, just cut the heads off. Take the DBM and barreled receiver out of the stock, install the long screws in the...

Gunsmithing Epoxy or steel bedding compound or what?

When you say "Too far back to pick up a round" do you mean the bottom metal itself or the magazine? Is this a DBM or BDL style. Either way it should be an easy fix and the stock should be able to be saved. I'm thinking a refit/bed of the bottom metal. Pictures??

AAC-SD shoots like $hit after 10 shots per range visit.

When you worked up your loads did you do it with or without the can? Do you have any 175 SMK's or 155 Lapua Scenars? For suppressed shooting, I had to work my ammo up suppressed, 308 Gasser and 260's, there was a .4 to .5 load difference between what shot un-suppressed vs suppressed. Try...

Gunsmithing Surgeon 1086 7 Mag misfires

This is usually caused by the striker / cocking piece to trigger sear bar relationship but not always. Defiance Machine receivers will also do this with a Timney trigger if the wrong sear bar is ordered in the trigger (Remington compliant) Basically, that portion of the sear bar that catches the...

    Gunsmithing What dictates accuacy

It's really an accumulation of multiple small details that get rolled into one huge project. I've seen rifles shoot in the .1's with a stock untouched Remington 700 receiver but, that's not the norm. Personally, I wouldn't build a rifle with a Remington 700 without truing it first. The reasons...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Glock 23 customs

I've been carrying Glocks since the early 1990's and can tell you this, as is, they shoot great. There are several things I do to my carry Glocks and firmly believe they all help in mastering the fundamentals. My main carry Glocks today are the G23 and G19. Word of caution first, my...
