old people.... almost old guy looking for advice

Everybody taking "Vitamin I" on an almost daily basis, you may want to listen up Within the last two years, an increasing body of evidence shows significant cardiac risk with long-term ibuprofen use. Happened to me, and I barely avoided needing a pacemaker. Occasional use is not a problem; it...

    Gunsmithing Removing RPR brake

Be aware the finish in the barrel is does not seem as hard as mil-spec; the rosin leather jaws on my aluminum vise altered the surface texture noticeably, but its only a can of AlumaHyde away from renewal. You should pass this on to your gunsmith so he can take precautions.

    Gunsmithing Removing RPR brake

OK, success, and as I thought, more involved than any muzle decice swap I've ever done. Clamped the barrel in an aluminum vise with leather padding dusted with rosin. Wrench on the jam nut, a long steel punch thru the center holes of the brake. Heat until too hot to touch; apply simultaneous...

    Gunsmithing Removing RPR brake

There are no set screws. I know Ruger uses a jam nut to index the brake. I know the jam nut needs to be unscrewed away from the brake body, and then the brake can be threaded off. Pretty straightforward. The jam nut on mine is tight. Either through torque or threadlocker. i soaked the muzzle...

Calculator results drastically different than DOPE

Something about your particular rig or shooting style is yielding a lower effective BC. Unstable bullet flight caused by a bad muzzle crown; a bad lot of bullets that are not gyroscopically stable. Bad station pressure input. Or a scope with calibration issues. Good luck I lnow this can be...

    Gunsmithing Removing RPR brake

Need to remove the brake from my RPR to install a different design. I see in the manual the brake has a "lock nut" - makes sense, makes it easy to clock mass produced brakes. Does anyone know if Ruger uses any threadlocker, and is there any better way to remove the factory brake? Nothing I've...

Gunsmithing Putting Timney trigger in RPR

^^^^^That. Here are a couple of pics that show the issue: The first shows the "Red Crescent of Doom" that signals the trigger isn't far enough forward. The second shows the hex bolts that will gain the needed clearance-almost.

    Ruger Precision Rifle Timney Trigger

My Timney is proving to be a problem. First,, after installaton exactly according to directions, the trigger housing protruded about .050" too far ro the rear for installation of the handguard with the safety installed. Next day I call Timney, and they instruct me to loosen the two hex bolts...

If this has been posted elsewhere, mods, a lease move/redirect. I couldn't not find it. Peacemaker National Training Center, located in my home state of WV, is being sued by a couple living in Virginia over noise. This appears to be total BS, but Peacemaker still needs to address the legal...

Gunsmithing Bolt won't close on factory ammo

Good info here. As mentioned, it doesn't sound like a chambering issue, More like a very simple bullet seating issue. Brings into question 2 variables: 1) Cartridge OAL, or "COAL" (overall length of cartridge, case head to bullet tip, and is primarily related to fitting a cartridge in a...

    Ruger Precision Rifle Discussion

There used to be a tool that let you swage primer pockets toght again on brass that was otherwise usable, could get another 5-6 reloads out of them if they weren't being overworked in a tight die/sloppy chamber. I'll see if I can dig it up and post it.

    Swarovski Dual Eyepiece Spotter!

Some very nice glass. When I was shooting 1000 yd BR in the mid 90s, some guys had custom machined brackets that held two spotters, like binocular bodies. Most had Bushnell Spacemasters w/22x Wide Angle eyepieces, but one gunsmiyh had two Swaro's w/ 27 LER/WA eyepieces. This was way before...

anyone using the Annie annealer, what are your thoughts

Kansas' setup is a perfect example of both how induction annealing effective but not just a "plug'n'play' solution, at least for continuous use. The Annie is the smallest coil in Fluxeon's lineup and indended for intermittent, manual, footswitch activated use. Continual cycling as with a Giraud...
