The new one will be another 65CM. I'm trying to decide what to rebarrel with. The 6GT is interesting, but brass looks to be hard to find, and dies are really expensive. Maybe 6 Dasher? 280 Ackley Improved? So many choices, so little money.
Well, about a month ago I convinced myself it was shot out and I needed a new barrel, so I got a new action and chassis. They're at the smith getting the barrel spun now. So that $50 borescope turned into a new custom.??
I've only cleaned copper twice, the last time was about 150 rounds back. Both times I cleaned it, it was because it started shooting right by 5-6 inches at 500.
Don't think there's a carbon ring in those pictures, they are about 4 inches past the throat.
1600- 1700 rounds through this barrel. All but 100 or so my loads, 6.5 CM, 142 SMK, 40.4 Gr H4350, Lapua brass, Fed 205M. Run about 2625 to 2640 over a Labradar. I looked at it 150 rounds back and saw a little bit of chipping, but nothing like this.
This might not be the best place to ask this, but is anyone running MDT mags in an ACC chassis with an Archimedes action? Mine is at the smith getting a barrel turned, and I've already bought 2 of the MDT 12 round mags. Worst case, I'll have to post them in the PX and pick up some ARC mags.
Let us know what you find when you get the headspace comparator. I'm thinking you were bumping the shoulder a little much. If that's not it, I'll be watching this to see how it turns out.
Are you bumping the shoulder any when you load? I would check the base to datum on some that are working and some that aren't. The only other thing, is it all the same lot of primers? I have found one bad primer. Thought I forgot to charge that round. When I knocked the bullet out, powder...
.053 seems like enough pain fall. Have you compared your reloads to a factory round? I'm far from the most knowledgeable here, but it sounds like excessive headspace.
I have a buddy that I hope never reloads. He shoots factory Berger. I have a steady supply of once fired Lapua, out of a known chamber. Please no one tell him to start.(y)(y)
Look in the Reloading Depot forum, many good combinations there. You might start with H4350 and any good 140 gr bullet. That's a pretty common recipe. I had better luck with 142 gr Sierra Match Kings than anything else I've tried. But that's just in my gun, your's might be different. As...
I'm currently using H4350 in a 24 inch 6.5CM. I'm getting a new barrel next week, and am wondering if I should be looking at a slightly slower powder to get the most out of the longer barrel. It doesn't seem like a lot of difference, but it's new to me, and I know there is a great deal of...
