    My solution to that is just not clean the barrel haha! Good to hear some solid field testing on the Jewell. Ive been running mine in my comp rifle for two years now also, not near as many matches or rounds, but no issues either.

    Check to make sure the shoulder of the Steiner bottoms out on the bell. Im told the threads bottom out on the lens retaining ring, which is bad news.

    There are no vital differences between old and new 700 actions so nothing to worry about there. The fact that it is a long action magnum bolt face though makes that one less than ideal for what you want to build on it. Look for a 243, 22250, or 308 those will be your best foundation.     Exactly why every rifle that leaves my shop is at least test fired and brass measured and inspected, usually always proofed for accuracy as well if possible. Granted, Im the only person that touches anything, so I know something this ridiculous isnt going to happen, but its still good insurance.

    I would cut them off and do 3/4-24, cost will be same and you won't compromise with smaller than ideal threads on a 338 bore. Most 338 cans aren't 5/8 btw, they should be 3/4. Sent from my GS5 on Tapatalk

    Gunsmithing How are barrels marked by custom small shops?

    Pretty much yep. They will lay them out on a sheet, then you just cut them out individually. If you go through Lectro Etch, just tell them what you are doing, they know all about it and can tell you the best height for the caliber lettering.
