Rifle Scopes Zeiss LRP S3 New First Focal Plane Riflescopes for Long-Range Precision Shooting

Well I found the Zeiss to be better suited for the 10/22. So easy to dial, so much elevation, and the bright center-only illumination will be handy for squirrel hunting on low power. I do wish the reticle was more like the MSR2 though. It’s a bit busy for my taste but it works. The colors have...

    How Accurate Is Your 10/22?

My precision drops off dramatically once the bullets leave the barrel. But still fun. Hit three in a row, two times last week on the 10” gong. But averaging about three out of ten at best. 365 yards across the hollow is challenging, right at 20 mils. It will hold minute of milk jug spout laid...

Action Wrenches - SAC vs Impact

Also a no brainer to trust the guy putting the barreled action together.

Hunting & Fishing Your “go to” hunting rifle?

My go-to woods rifle. Factory Ruger GSR in 308, 16” barrel, fairly compact, versatile, and lightweight, and a decent (but heavy) trigger. I mostly use either 130 Shock Hammers or 168 ELD-M’s for hunting, both work well. Shots are normally inside of 125 yards around here, this one was around 75...

    6.5x47 Lapua

Approaching 3000 rounds on my x47, and it’s still shooting but I think the velocity has started to drop. Took it out past 500 yards for the first time in a few years, did ok at 1000 yards (first round impact on the 12” sight-in plate) but it fell apart at 1250. Switching headwind of 10-15 mph...

Rifle Scopes Zeiss LRP S3 New First Focal Plane Riflescopes for Long-Range Precision Shooting

Agreed. The reticle on 4x is the most useable of any FFP reticle I’ve had when set on the lowest magnification, and the brightness of the illumination is outstanding. I also like how you don’t see much of the surrounding ocular. It’s a very good eye piece design in that regard. Initially I was...

Rifle Scopes Zeiss LRP S3 New First Focal Plane Riflescopes for Long-Range Precision Shooting

You are right, that was a poor choice of words on my part. I have edited my post to sound less critical. To be clear, I was checking the eye box across varying mag ranges with the scope sitting still on my bag on my tripod, not just holding it in my hands. I fully expect it to be a solid scope...

Rifle Scopes Zeiss LRP S3 New First Focal Plane Riflescopes for Long-Range Precision Shooting

Wrong. You can tell a lot about an optic before mounting it. Eye box forgiveness will obviously improve when mounted, but when it’s tight it’s easy to spot.

Rifle Scopes Zeiss LRP S3 New First Focal Plane Riflescopes for Long-Range Precision Shooting

I just received my S3 two days ago. There's a lot to like about it and it compares nicely with the T6Xi. Several pro's and several con's for what I want it for. I did notice that the eye box was tight but it is not mounted yet, so hopefully it won't become an issue.

    Straight walled wildcats

I don't think BC is very important when talking about sub-sonics. Plus you aren't going to be hunting with subs much beyond 100 yards it doesn't sound like. If you do, you definitely need to know your drops in five or ten yard increments beyond 100. I am considering a 12 or 16 inch barrel for a...

Rifle Scopes Zeiss LRP S3 New First Focal Plane Riflescopes for Long-Range Precision Shooting

This is good to hear. I have a 4-25 on the way. Curious to see how it compares to my T6Xi 3-18.

    Adjustable buttplate for McMillan?

I used to use the canting feature but when I started shooting both strong and weak side, I set it to the neutral position. It is more comfortable with a slight cant if I am just shooting on one side though. It isn’t tool-less like the cheek riser. So it’s easy to adjust if you keep a...

Do bore specific cans make any actual difference in sound reduction?

Yep, risk is inherent in most of my hobbies, shooting probably the least of them. Just trying to make an educated decision and maximize my enjoyment. I’m pretty much set on the Magnus. Appreciate all your help.

    Adjustable buttplate for McMillan?

The 3-way buttplate works great. Might as well get the most adjustable option. Definitely helps going from prone to tripod and from warm to cold weather.

Do bore specific cans make any actual difference in sound reduction?

The 223 barrel is a Bartlein SS M24 at 18” and the x47 barrel is an M24-ish Bartlein brown carbon fiber at 20”, so a 1.8” diameter can should balance out nicely. Another concern of mine is first round pop while hunting. I already have a little ringing in my left ear so I’m trying to avoid any...

Do bore specific cans make any actual difference in sound reduction?

Yeah that’s why I was looking at some 6.5 can options. I have no use for a 223 can for an AR, so I was weighing the versatility of the 30 to the extra suppression? of the 6.5 bore size on the 223 and x47. For only 3 decibels, I think I’m going to go with the Magnus. It’s the easy button for me...

Do bore specific cans make any actual difference in sound reduction?

Getting close to purchasing a dedicated can for a new build, this one will be for a lighter weight crossover rifle for general use, shooting 500 and in, and hunting. Primary goal is for max suppression, secondary goal is light weight. Parts: TL3, HNT26, Bartlein 6.5x47 and 223 barrels, all parts...

    TBAC bipod-questions for owners

I use both and like them both, you can’t go wrong with either. The TBAC is faster to deploy but takes two hands to stow the legs back in unless you use the gun to do it while prone. The CAL is a little more versatile due to its greater range of motion and I like that I can stow the legs back one...

    Rifle Scopes Minox zp5

It doesn’t resolve details as well as the ZP5’s, but there aren’t many scopes that can. I do remember it having a better IQ than a Leupold 3.6-18 I checked out. I can nitpick on anything given enough time and use, but I have no complaints on the image quality, other than some annoying CA if I’m...
