Gunsmithing Show off your barrel flutes!

Anybody know about how much weight 6 straight 1/4" flutes will remove from a 26" bbl?

Looks like fox has 'em against the ropes. ;-) It'll be fun to watch 'em dodge the incoming bullets.

    equipment vs. skill

Sorry to hear it brother. Thanks for your service. My pain in the wrist comes from twisting too many screwdrivers. Sako Hunter stock was built for us ;-)

    .308 accelerators

Are they still available? I have a box or 2 in 308 but haven't shot 'em. Back in the day, I did use some to test fire and was surprised at the recoil.

Gunsmithing BAT Machine Action firing pin spring removal

Dang Chad, I hate when that happens ;-) Jackle1, Typically the cocking piece is held on with a pin. Occasionally the firing pin is threaded and there is a set screw to secure it. In the case of new Win and Sako there is a split ring and collar on the front.

Gunsmithing Show off your barrel flutes!

BF, Your example is what I came up with when I first started doing spirals. I intend to (one day) tilt the head to cut a true octagon instead of the concave result. Your fast twist makes the concave fly tho' ;-)

    Gunsmithing Lug Lapping?

It's a bitch to get it out with anything short of pulling the bbl and wiping it out with Q tips or a brush and a vat. Carb/brake cleaner is fine as well as heads from the still. I vote for sc aka clover compound but abrasive is just that. Main thing is once you have it clean, lap it with a good...

Gunsmithing Show off your barrel flutes!

Interesting to see you suffer from the same issues I encounter with opposing flutes. Any insight on why they don't cut to the same depth?

Gunsmithing How do they do it?

Kinda neat how this works. I have no doubt that your math adds up. 2 bushings with .005" taper = .010" My uneducated guess is that your calculations reflect .002" above the center line. Half it and it makes sense;-) Back to neat how this works. It's funny how one can address particular parts of...

Gunsmithing How do they do it?

Interesting! I don't see any adjustment in the block. I also question the roundness of the finished hole when you remove it. It'd be easier to swallow if all actions were the same dia. and truly round. ;-)

Gunsmithing How do they do it?

Logic would lead you in that direction. If you used a spiral fluted reamer life would be good. Straight fluted reamers tend to not like cutting through open spaces like ejection ports and such.
