    Building a "precision" hunting rifle

I build a lot of rifles and shoot a lot of big game. If you are a fit boy and weigh 80 pounds, you should hunt with a rifle and scope that is 5 pounds or less.... that is a 22. If you are a fit 150 pound man, you should hunt with a rifle, scope, bipod, sling, rear bag, and ammo that is 10...

Are any of the custom actions better suited for a 223 build?

I built a 223 on a 1972 Sav 110 action with a Lothar Walther barrel. I got the best groups ever from a 223. I shot prairie dogs with it. I still don't like Savage action.

Who still owns their first gun?

My first firearm was Win 77 semi auto 22 rifle. I got sand in the action and it jammed. So I sold it. Now 50 years later, I know how to take 22s apart and have a video on Win 77 gunsmithing.

Need some advice for a 223 bolt gun build

My brother's main prairie dog gun for 20 years has bee a 223 built with a 16" twist Douglas meant for rimfire. He can stabilize a 52 gr bullet, but not a 55 grain. He was a lot slimmer 20 years ago, but he still goes to the same dog town, 20 miles from his house.

    1898 Mauser

This year's Mauser was a 1903 Turk in 260 Remington throated out to 3.1" AOL. I had to make a throater holder for the Bartlein barrel I shortened both ends and re tapered. I have killed deer with Mausers I converted in 7mmRemMag and 6.5-06.

    Caliber for shoulder injury

My 338WM 250 gr 2500 fps with Limbsaver recoil pad kicks less than my 30-30 150 gr 2000 fps with no recoil pad. My 6mmBR 95 gr 2800 fps with slip on Limbsaver has the lowest recoil of any rifle I have used to take big game at long range.

    Savage Axis II Precision 30-06!

My brother sold me a Sav 110E 30-06 for $75 in 1985. I have put a custom 280AI barrel, Timney trigger, ground recoil lug, etc. on it. I have told myself I will never work on a Savage 110 again, but this week I am just restocking it with a wood stock. But the bolt release interferes with a 3/8"...

What kind of spider is this?

There is a phone ap that identifies spiders. I have used it, but my wife has an ap that identifies wild plants. I have been calling things the wrong name, my whole life.

More 1976 biathlon than sniper 6.5x54r Vostok

I have not shot it yet, but per Quickload it is nearly the same as my 6.5-06 Rifles I have been building and shooting deer with: 120 gr nos bal tip 3130 fps 47 gr IMR 4166. I have 4 deer tags for October 2021, but the wife only wants 3 deer in the freezer. This rifle will get it's chance.

    Why the hatred for savage?

I have rebarrelled Savage rifles in lever action, break action and bolt action. I would rather rebarrel a pre 64 win M70, a 98 Mauser, Mosin Nagant, or Rem700. Stock availability is poor. The inside of a savage bolt is crazy. The staggered feed/ center feed is crazy.

    6.5 creedmoor whitetail round

I shot a whitetail doe with a 6.5-06, 120 gr nos bal tip, at 629 yards. Those whitetail does are a small target.
