Considering a switch from reloading to factory ammo

I bought a 280AI reamer and Nosler 280AI brass in 2018... I did not form my own from surplus LC 30-06 brass. Until it is fire formed, the brass is not concentric at my house. The factory brass was already concentric. That cost me 75 cents a round extra. I can't stop being cheap, but if I really...

    Gunsmithing Dial test indicator

I have lots of test indicators, including and Interapid 0.0001". I parted off the breech of a take off Rem700 barrel and threaded it for a military rifle. I did not debur the chamber. The 7mmmag reamer wobbled all the way to head space. I measured the chamber as 0.0050" eccentric. I went to...

    Gunsmithing Benchtop mills

I had $2k into a beat up old 600 pound 1963 Rockwell 21-100 from 2004 to 2015. Then I got a 2000 pound mint condition 1969 Bridgeport for $12k. It turns out for gunsmithing, the little mill was just as good. All I got that was an improvement was the DRO and auto feed. I could have tacked...

PTG takes forever if it is not in stock. Manson takes forever if it is not in stock. But Manson is smart on the phone, the PTG girls know nothing..... deal with the PTG website.

Gunsmithing Smallest practical lathe for chambering and threading

I bought my brother a 13x40 Jet in 2000. We have built dozens or rifles on it. I bought a Grizzly G4031 7x12 mini lathe in 2002. I have converted pistol barrels from 9x19 to 9x23 with it. I bought a Clausing 5913 12x36 in 2002. I built dozens of rifles on it. I bought a Precision Matthews...

Gunsmithing Stripped scope base screw hole

After hundreds of guns, I have only seen a stripped out scope screw hole once, on a old Ruger 10/22 I got for $35 at a pawn shop in the 1990s. It had two holes stripped out.

Rifle Scopes Best Hunting Scope ?

I shot deer at 20 yards and 625 yards and in between in 2017 with a Leupold VX6HD. I buy a lot of scopes and that seems the best for my hunting.

Rifle Scopes Market for high priced glass????

Where I live I am surrounded by rich liberals. Where I hunt I am surrounded by poor conservatives. Cars cost the same in both places, but houses are 10X as costly near Amazon headquarters. The guys buying high end scopes are not mending fences, they are probably writing software.

    Gunsmithing Thanks PT&G!

I like PTG products, prices, lead times.... but I always get some ninny on the phone. McMillan is the worst on the phone. Manson, Stocky's, and Wyatt are so sharp on the phone, I have play the ninny role:(

Gunsmithing Rifle builders!: how long to build a rifle?

It is taking 6 months from Krieger, Bartlein and McMillan, 3.5 months from S&B in Germany, 10 weeks for a bolt from PTG..... Things that take ME a day: Cut chamber, threads, and crown muzzle. Make pillars and glass bed. Scope bases, rings, and bore sight. Sight in at the range

Rifle Scopes 0, 20, or 30 MOA base?

When I started hunting, I found it easy with a rangefinder to dial in trajectory compensation out to 400 yards. I built a lot of rifles, bought a lot of scopes, and shot a lot of long range targets. I could keep them in the 12" kill zone out to 400 yards, but it took a hot rodded heavywieht...

Rifle Scopes Cheap scope for out to 500 yards or so

I have ~ 100 good scopes and lots of take off scopes filling up file folder boxes. I ordered a scope this morning for $180. https://www.opticsplanet.com/leupold-vx-freedom-2-7x33-1-inch-riflescopes.html The reason I ordered that one is for the small diameter eyepiece. I build a lot of rifles...

Rifle Scopes IOR Valdada scopes, good or bad?

I got my first IOR at a gunshow 10 years ago I got the second, third, and fourth, here in Snipers Hide between 8 and 9 years ago. I got my 5th IOR on Ebay. I would have not noticed IOR if not for SH. I had seen them at Brownells for the last 25 years, but paid no attention. I don't use the FFP...
