    But, are you within 0.020" of the lands? Also, you are really restricting powder space in the case if you are loading 80's and they are fitting in a 2.444" long magazine. I load 75 grain AMAX's to 2.403" to put me 0.020" from the lands and that is a compressed load with 25 grains of Varget.

    You do not need a brake on a .223. My .223 has less recoil than my .243 with a brake. I love my .223 and shoot it more than my other two (larger cartridge) rifles combined.

    The "fit and finish" on the Savage 12FV is better than my new Remington 700 SPS. It has a better bolt/action, trigger, and barrel than the Rem 700 SPS. Plus, it has that lovely big round bolt knob.

    First, go with the .223 if you are not shooting past 500 yards. My main range is 600 yards max and my .223 gets used more than my 6mm and .308 combined. When I shoot to 1,000 yards, the other rifles come out. The .223 has minimal recoil, ammunition is much cheaper (I do reload all calibers)...

    223 version of the RPR

    I agree 100% that a 20" barrel on a "precision" .223 is definitely on the short side. 24" would have been best in order to match the 6mm and 6.5mm RPR and work as a trainer. Also, the added velocity is nice that is attained with 4" more barrel length.
