    Gunsmithing Normal AR bolt wear?

    I recently built my first AR, and after a quick 40 rounds to break the barrel in, I took a look at my bolt and was wondering if this wear is normal? It's got 40 rounds through it and 2-300 hand-cyclings. I just wiped it off a little after shooting it. Thoughts? Any input is much appreciated...

    Silver solder sight base?

    I'm working on a 700 build right now and I've thought that a surgeon action would be nice because the rail is milled as part of the receiver, not just screwed on. Then I thought, "Well, hey! I could just weld the rail onto my receiver for maximum durability and not worrying about those screws!"...

    Gunsmithing Which thread pitch to choose?

    I'm about to get my .243 rem700 cut and threaded. Which thread pitch should I use? I'd like to have a flash hider on it for a while, until I can figure out a suppressor to put on it. I think I'll just go with a .30 cal suppressor. Opinions?

    clip slotting utility?

    Does clip slotting have any utility purpose for those that mount optics? If you use a badger ordnance base that slips into the slot, is there some durability to be gained? P.S. I used the 'search' function, and I couldnt find an answer to my question.

I know you can do that on a .308 and deal with loss of velocity, but what about a 16 inch .243? Too much velocity lost? Should I just put a .308 barrel in? Does anybody have any data for a 16...
