Yeah it’s definitely a study of compromises. I’m gonna throw a bit longer steel barrel on it to bump the weight up a few pounds for range use and save the CF barrel for hunting. Should come in around 14 lbs with a heavier barrel.
Until I built one and used it extensively. Not sure why the thought of “if I only had only one rifle” came into my head. Who has only one rifle? It’s so optic dependent anyway. So now it’s a full on lightweight precision rifle.
Compromising sucks.
Personally I would use the louder/recoil optimized of the two for range use and comps (S RR), and the quieter one (full size Magnus, non-RR) for hunting.
That’s going to be my next action (CDG). I got hands on one a few weeks ago for the first time and it was the smoothest running action I have ever cycled. I love my TL3 and 737, but wow.
Saw a Matterhorn in person for the first time a few weekends ago. Was very impressed. Something about that dark gray and walnut blend. Seemed like less tool and more art. Was thinking of doing something similar but going with a 6 BR variant.
Interested to see what performance you get out of...
Agree with @Lightning8, its nice to just throw charges quickly with a 223 using quality bullets costing nearly half the price. I shoot so much more now because of this.
Highly recommend the Area 419 mount over rings, but if you go with rings, can’t go wrong with Seekins. They are the best value in quality rings I feel.
Starline 5.56 brass, 26.0 StaBALL Match, Rem 7 1/2, and 80 ELDM’s have been very accurate in my 18” Bartlein. 2.500 OAL. Going just over 2800, it has worked well out to 860 yards so far.
2800-2850 should be easy for you with a 20” barrel.
So when I tighten my jam nut, I still torque on the brake itself to get it really tight. Much easier to grasp. Hasn’t loosened yet.
Agree that wrench flats would be nice a touch.
Just finished up an old jug of powder for my 223 bolt gun that I bought years ago and then put away and didn’t use for a long time after I sold my last AR. Was shocked to see what I paid for it. Primers were around 2 or 3 cents each at the time if I remember correctly.
