Rifle Scopes Ivey Vs Cold Shot Scope Base

Has anyone here had experience with the Cold Shot or Ivey scope bases? I am going to buy one or the other.

    147 ELD + R16 Loads

I have some 147 ELDs, R16 powder and Alpha brass I want to start developing this weekend. I'm running it from a Ruger Precision rifle. What's some starting weights for testing? I was thinking of starting at about 41 and then moving up .3 from there. My goal would be nice groups at 2700 and above...

Some observations on the Hornady 140gr ELD Match and 147gr ELD Match (6.5 Creedmoor)

This I have found to be very true, my 6.5 with 140 ELDs like .030 off the lands. The closer I went the wider the groups went. Funny thing is .040 the groups again opened up so .030 it is. My 22-250 is the same way, it hates being close to the lands.

Is SRP in anything larger than .223 unsafe?

I have shoot almost 1000 rounds with Alpha 6.5 Creedmoor small primer brass and zero issues. I have yet to see any sign of n ignition problem, I'm staying with SRP for my 6.5.

Alpha 6.5 Creedmoor Brass users what loads are you using with 140 ELD-M's

I have been using 40.6 gr. of H4350 with a velocity of 2655 avg. This with 140 ELDs and 142 Sierra HPBTs. I have never measured the case at that point but I'm not getting any sign of being to hot.

    Seating Depth Into The Case

Thanks for all the advice and good reading. I love how a question brings out all kinds of ideas. I guess I will back off a little and start testing. Thanks

    Seating Depth Into The Case

Not jumping, how much is in the case. If I set .020 from the lands I will only have .090 - .100 of the bullet holding in the case. I'm not counting the BT part as that will not be touching the case. Is that enough to retain the bullet?

    Seating Depth Into The Case

I'm loading some 22-250 Hornady cases with a 52 gr. Sierra HPBT. I checked my Base to Ogive but if I seat them .020 off the lands I'm going to be very shallow in the case. I'm thinking to more than 1/16th inch. That's pretty shallow isn't it? The rifle in a Remington 700 varmint . Thanks

    How hot is too hot?

I'm running 40.6 gr of H4350 in Alpha brass. With this I'm getting an avg. of 2655 fps. with the 140 ELD or the 142 Sierra match. Any time I went over this my groups open up. At 40.6 I'm getting .5 or less moa so I don't see a reason to go any higher in velocity. I have been out to 700 with no...

    Spotting Scopes Or Telescopes?

I was shooting last week with several people and with my kind of cheap spotting scope I couldn't see holes on white at 550 yards. I asked the guys to my left and right and they said they couldn't see there's either at 350 and 550 yards. They were using Vortex, Sig, Leopold and a Barska. At...

    Measuring Base To Ogive

I have used the Hornady tool and find very easy and repeatable to find base to ogive. I still don't understand why but all 3 bullets I tried do indeed have a different base to ogive. The other thing nice is the 6.5 case from Hornady has the exact same base to shoulder of my fired brass, that's...

    Measuring Base To Ogive

Lots of good reading here, thanks to all for their knowledge on this topic.

    Measuring Base To Ogive

I ordered one of the Hornady tools and I will do some more checking. I still have a hard time seeing how different bullets will have different base to ogive length since all the bullets will contact the lands at the same diameter. The video above looks so easy but in reality does not work that...

    Measuring Base To Ogive

Shouldn't the measurement from base to ogive be the same or every bullet combination? Once you know one, shouldn't the contact point be the same for any bullet. I used the rod down the barrel method but it hard to get good repeatable readings. The crimped case and bullet inserted is useless as...

6.5 Creedmoor Load with Alpha Brass

I have settled for now on 41.5 gr of H4350 and the Sierra 42 HPBT. I'm getting good accuracy and 2665 fps so it should be mild on the barrel. I will play more later with different loads.

6.5 Creedmoor Load with Alpha Brass

I think Ill stay where I'm at. Even the guy at Alpha said if you get to 2750 your maxing the load. At 2656 my load is accurate and should be easy on the barrel. At 1000 yards the difference isn't that much.

Frankford Arsenal Prefect Seat Hand Primer

I like mine but when loading the 6.5 Ceedmoor you can't push the brass clear into the back of the shell holder or the primer catches on the side of the pocket. You have to insert it out just a bit and feel for the pocket then set the primer. I haven't tried any other calibers yet. Other than...
