Gunsmithing When do you gunsmiths add flutes to a barrel blank?

It is best to give me a call to discuss the feasibility of specific fluting options.

Gunsmithing When do you gunsmiths add flutes to a barrel blank?

It seems to make no difference when the barrel is fluted. I flute a lot that have been "broke in".

Gunsmithing When do you gunsmiths add flutes to a barrel blank?

Personally I like to flute after the barrel is chambered and crowned. It is easier for me to clock the flutes to the action that way. You just need to mark the TDC on the barrel and then pick the mark up in the mill so you can put the flutes where you want them. No need for a re-crown if you use...

Gunsmithing Fluting Push Feed M70 Question.

I typically pay no attention to them and just deburr the holes where the flutes runs through them. I am more concerned with not hitting the ejector spring.

Gunsmithing Gunsmiths - What magazine follower do you use??

Re: Gunsmiths - What magazine follower do you use?? For lighter builds I like the stamped junk. I haven't seen one snap yet! Otherwise I usually use the factory solid stainless. They especially work well if you need to modify them a bit to get a short mag to feed a little better.

Re: Bedding pictures Definitely a fine looking beading job! Just curious about the spot face on the top of the pillars after beading. Is there a benefit?

    Gunsmithing Thoughts on Shilen Triggers

Re: Thoughts on Shilen Triggers I like them quite a bit. I wish they still were using their more rounded and serrated trigger shoe though.

    Gunsmithing McMillian Remington Hunter stock

Re: McMillian Remington Hunter stock The Rem. Hunter and the McMillan Hunter are the two most comfortable stocks they make in my opinion. They are the same stocks except the McMillan hunter has a slimmer for arm and will only take up to about a #4 contour. Both have a small palm swell that...

Gunsmithing Question on Sako Extractor Size

Re: Question on Sako Extractor Size I use the .172 wide extractor for all bolt faces. I think that is the same as GT's smaller one and the Tubb 2000. I also cut the bolt nose to about .130 if I am doing a re-barrel at the same time. If not I leave the nose alone.

Gunsmithing Can you run regular floor metal on stiller .338

Re: Can you run regular floor metal on stiller .338 Yes you can run the Remington long action BDL bottom metal with it. I would suggest using the Weatherby center feed mag. box, spring and follower that Stiller also sells for that action.

Gunsmithing Square threads, anyone? Winnie bolt mandrel......

Re: Square threads, anyone? Winnie bolt mandrel...... I made mine using a .0625 grooving insert in my top notch holder. It is a little sloppy but it tightens up just fine.

Gunsmithing Build parts are in, need some input 6.5x47 bullet

Re: Build parts are in, need some input 6.5x47 bullet I also think the 142's are a little to heavy for that case. And in the ones that I have test fired the 123SMK edged out the Scenar. That being said, doesn't John have a 6.5 throater he can run in there if you want more free-bore?
