    Help identifying 30cal 180gr bullet

I think it's a Swift Scirocco that was made for one of the major ammunition manufacturers with that added deep cannelure. That bullet has a very thick jacket and the black plastic tip, just like the Sciroccos. Whatever it is, it's a very nice hunting bullet.

    308 FGGM brass

The newer GMM brass that has been made in the last 10 years or so is much better brass than the older, softer GMM brass. I've been reloading it since the early 1980's. I've hoarded a lifetime supply of it over the years from L/E Sniper Teams. Segregated the older from the newer brass. The...

30-06 COAL and CBTO with 178 ELDX

^^^^This^^^^. I have a few Factory Remington 700's and all have measured very long throats. Can't get near the lands @ max. SAAMI COAL. Nature of the 700 Factory beast. Do some more measuring, but you may find out it is what it is. You might have to load your ammo @ the 3.340" to get them to...

7PRC problem. Brand new prefit barrel, reputable smith, bolt wont close on freshly sized new brass

A Comparator would help you figure out if it is a shoulder bump length issue. I reload for about 9 Rifle cartridges, a Comparator is a necessary tool. I have multiple rifles chambered for the same cartridge. Getting good measurements is a necessity. 90% of the time for me, a chambering issue...

    Getting started on a budget...

^^^^THIS ^^^^ I never understood the appeal for the Hornady die bushings. I was curious and timed the effort for removing a die from the press. It took less than 10 seconds to do it. Those bushings seem to me to be a waste of money. The real time saver for me is the Giraud case trimmer for...

Updated advice on optics at or under $1500

I did this a number of years ago. At 100 yards, I measured the distance from the tip of the 6 O'clock duplex line to the center cross hair. It was 3.5 ". I zeroed the rife @ 100 yards and at full power, I used that tip of the 6 O'clock duplex for a 300 yard shot. I tested it with a 30/06 W/ a...

    Rounds not chambering

O/P, are you 100% sure you have the seating die screwed out enough not to be putting ANY crimp on the case neck? That WILL cause the case shoulder to buckle some and cause the case not to chamber. Are your case lengths are at or below recommended max length?

M118LR all the same regardless of the name on the box?

I would just buy Federal 175 Gr. GMM and not mess with the M118 LR. Prices are going to be similar. The 175 GMM will be better ammo. For reloading the 175 SMK, try some Varget. Temp stable and Varget & the 175 SMK has a history of shooting well.

Headspace inserts : SAC vs Hornady

^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^ I've had the Hornady set since it was originally Stoney Point. They do work. I bought the Derraco set through Ugly Annealing a few months ago. The Derraco set is very nice for the price. It also comes with a full set of bullet comparators. The set is machined very...

    Primer Pocket Crimp Removal Tools

O/P, you are listing two different types of tools. One is a primer pocket uniforming tool. That tool WILL NOT remove the primer crimp, it will only uniform the bottom of the primer pocket. A primer crimp removal tool will Only remove the primer crimp, it will NOT uniform the bottom of the...

Almost no neck tension on new brass?

I have a Mighty Armory 308 Win. die that will not size the necks enough of any brass that you would need a .333" or less bushing. I have a bunch of old Winchester brass that needs a .331" bushing and some Hornady brass that needs a.333" bushing. That M/A die will not size the necks enough to...

    Case sizing.

One of the downsides to those plunk gauges is if you have a case rim anomaly, the case will not plunk all of the way down into the gauge, giving you a false reading. I've had this happen often, especially cases fired in a gas gun. No way you're getting .050" difference. Try a different piece...

    RCBS out of spec

Redding competition shell holders will NOT give you more shoulder bump. They work the opposite direction. They give you less bump. For getting more shoulder bump, you will need to grind off a few thousandths off of a shell holder or off of the bottom of the die.

    Who makes this 308 brass?

No updates. As I noted before when I checked this brass, it is well made, boxer primed and was very uniform in weight. I F/L resized some of the cases and I found them to be good quality. It's not some Commi made Crap. I couldn't find the link to the source of where i found it to be Swedish...
