Anyone familiar with the pillar bedding offered by Boyd's with their stocks?

I can't comment on the 700 style stocks but on the Mauser, Ruger, and other actions their "pillars" I think are a joke. They are small thin walled metal that almost looks like you took some cheap pen apart and glued the tube into the hole. But I think that's because the ones I've bedded for...

Is this normal for a custom action?

Coming from barreling everything from old mauser's to custom actions the one thing I can tell you is typically when you have those extended style bolt handles or even just enlarged ones you can change the leverage and how pressure is applied to your bolt when cycling. On top of that depending...

    223 bolt gun and 62 eld-vt

I've got soke test loads ready for the range. I just don't feel like laying in snow on a day that's a high of 17. But I'll post back on here what my results are.

    223 bolt gun and 62 eld-vt

Thank you for the reply. That's awesome to hear since I have a 8lb jug of 8208 sitting around with no use. I will give it a try. My 223 is a 7.5 twist 23" barrel so I figure if I push them a little harder they should run fine.

    223 bolt gun and 62 eld-vt

That's good info thanks. I haven't messed with lever becuase I heard it can be finicky with temps and humidity swings. But I was thinking on the faster end of the powder spectrum. Like varget speed

    223 bolt gun and 62 eld-vt

Good afternoon everyone, I've had pretty good luck with the factory 22 ARC 62gr eld-vt ammo for night hunting. I'm about to embark on reloading for my 233 bolt gun with a long throat running the 62gr eld-vt bullets. Has anyone messed with these at all yet? And if so what powders and primers are...

    22 ARC

I am using the MDT 6 ARC mags both in steel 12 and new poly 10. They work great, I think I like the poly better and half the price. AR side use Duramag or ASC 6.5 Grendel mags

    Criterion barrels - Accuracy

I've had pretty good luck with my 18" Core. I rebuilt a RRA LEF-T upper with it, didn't do anything fancy, just tightened the new barrel nut on and installed parts. I did notice it was somewhat a little finicky with ammo, I had a pile of Frontier 68gr that would be good one day and then another...

Help me pick an 18 .223 Wylde Barrel

My vote goes to the 18" Core, at least that's the one I have the most or any experience with. I've had it print a dirty 1" group with some 55gr ammo I found locally, some others it hates. It shoots 68-69 gr the best so far, I have tried some factory loaded 77 with mixed results. Here was my...

    Curtis Customs out of business?

I ordered some actions last year and things drug out, got radio silence, finally got a bit nasty on social media post, then got some of what I ordered in, then waited weeks and had to blow up again to get the rest of it. Now I've been trying to swap a bolt out I asked to be swapped before it...

    Any love for x-caliber barrels?

As a gunsmith I've been using X-Caliber barrel blanks almost exclusively for about 5-6 years now. No experience with their AR or Pre-Fit Barrels, but everything I have chambered up has easily been under MOA, usually closer to 1/2. Excellent lead time, lots of customization options, great...

StaBall Match Testing - 77gr Reloads, Chasing mk262

I started playing with Staball Match in my 223 gasser and 308 bolt after reading this thread and have also had weird issues. So far doing charge weights from 24.4-25.4 with 223 and 77gr SMK has produced the smallest group of about 1.5". On the other hand built a 308 load with 168 RDF's, 46.3gr...

    12.5" Pistol/SBR caliber choices

I've got it on a stock list at work to get a pile of it. Looks like an awesome round. Plus reasonably priced comparatively

Teslong Video of X-Caliber CF Barrel 30-06

I've been primarily running X-Caliber barrels since 2017 as a non sponsored shooter and now as a full-time gunsmith. They make a great product, usually quick lead times, custom options available to anyone, stand behind their products. I've put many different barrels on rifles over the years and...

    12.5" Pistol/SBR caliber choices

I don't have any pictures of my groups but with S&B 110gr FMJ I had about 1" groups at 100. It shoots surprisingly well like I had said before out to 5-600 for what I remember which was staying 2moa sized steel. I plan on this fall/winter to get the gun room squared away and work up a load for...

Just an FYI.. Criterion CORE Barrels availability.

They are good folks at Criterion. I'm a dealer for them and I did a $15k order or so through them and was informed of the lead time could extend into this fall/early winter. But was assured that they are turning barrels out faster than before but striving to keep their QC tight to put out the...

    12.5" Pistol/SBR caliber choices

I've got a jug of AA2200 and H335 sitting here as well as a case of 3k Hornady 110gr BTHP. I plan on building up a load for it here soon, but time is against me.
