I’m using a Mystery Ranch bag with built-in water bottle pouches on the side. I stuff two tripod legs into that pouch when carrying around. I find it troublesome to stuff the legs when the bag is full or in an awkward position.

I think something like a lightweight rigid oval cup holder thing in the water bottle pouch will provide structure for easier in/out. Plus it can act as a protective barrier to prevent tears with hard corners.

Does anyone have any suggestions on existing items out there that can fulfill this little niche idea?

I've sometimes placed a titanium mug in the bottom of a cup holder pocket, both to keep the pocket rigid, and as it's a good place to keep the cup out of the way (and near the bottle).

Short neoprene coozy/beer holder around the bottom of the bottle keeps it from rattling, as well as easier to handle in cold weather, or if holding hot water.

However, if you wanted oval for this specific purpose, what about an old plastic GI water bottle, cut to whatever height you want?

Wow, my subconscious removed that key piece of memory - why didn’t I think of a canteen?!?

I was unable to find a canteen that slipped by CIF in any of my duffle bags so I bought one. Chopped the top and works like a charm.

I took a qd buckle and some paracord and attached it to the top of one of the legs of my tripod and the other side i attached to the dring on the shoulder strap of my backpack. Just close the legs up for a little bit of balance. When moving just buckle it up and roll. I never take my binos off either. Works pretty good
