Finally come to the conclusion 1-6x24 tactical scopes aren't the best match for hunting. Looking at a 1.5-6x42 for a suppressed 300 blackout. The Burris mtac looks interesting but have no experience with Burris outside the XTR 2. Any other options the hide recommends?

I'd like to hear about your experiences. Was it too dim, exposed turrets give a problem? Reticle too thick or too complicated?

To dim in most circumstances. My In laws land is heavily wooded and the last 15 minutes of legal light it's not worth staying. My family's land is fairly open so it does ok in open fields/lightly wooded areas. I generally have capped turrets and never thought the reticles were holding me up.

Leupold used to make the VX-R 2-7x33mm with the SPR reticle and the LR Duplex reticle. That would be perfect for that set up. Light weight, compact, good glass, w/ an illuminated center dot.

I have the 3-9x40mm version with the TMR reticle and it is a great hunting scope. It is actually a better hunting scope than a precision scope, which is why it lives on my Ruger Mk II 30-06.

Is that 1.5 bottom end a deal breaker? Because jumping up to a 2x would open up a lot of options. The Steiner GS3 2-10x42, for example is designed around bringing in a ton of light, and uses a simple clean reticle.

Have one Burris MTAC 1.5-6 only $3xx ( Expendable ) but I do like very much , on 14.5” 308 AR10 ( one or my tactical combat , self defense or go car gun )
