A few months back I had the opportunity to buy a moderately customized 10/22 at a price I couldn't pass up. The previous owner built an ultra-lightweight 10/22 build, optimized for subs with chamfered bolt, hardened guide rod, light spring that can shoot one ragged hole at 50 yds with match ammo. I've put 400 rounds through this rifle and it shoots good at 50 yds but I want it to shoot better at 100yds. With that being said, I have a solid head start on this build. (Picture at bottom of post with the way it sits)
The rifle sits as follows: TacSol Ultralight aluminum tensioned Fluted, threaded 16" bbl with thread protector, Chamfered bolt, Kidd innovations sharpclaw extractor, guide rod, bolt buffer, bolt handle, OD green Hogue stock, Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 scope, and 6-9 Harris bi pod.
In order to get the match grade accuracy that I desire, a different barrel is in order. My barrel experience lies with TacSol and only TacSol. Alot of buyers go with Green Mountain for the price but I which I can understand, but I'm looking for performance, which has lead me to Kidd Innovations and Clark Customs. Any suggestions on between these two?
Next to be replaced is the Hogue overmold stock, it just feels cheap and will be replaced by a Boyds Tacticool stock more than likely. I've shot a couple Savage 17 HMR's that have that stock and it just feels solid with a perfect cheek weld.
So here's my question, do I pillar bed the stock or do I do as good of a glass style bedding as I can?
Surprisingly enough, the previous owner didn't touch the trigger in it and while the stock Ruger trigger isn't bad, it's certainly not great with it's creep. I'm not looking for any super light trigger, 2.5 - 3.0lbs is fine with me as that's what my 93R17's have. Who has the better DIY match trigger parts, Kidd or VQ?
I'm swapping out the Bushnell Banner for a Vortex Viper but haven't decided what size, probably the 6-20x44 and I plan to mount it on TPS rings.
Now I know you're thinking that it's an expensive build and it is but this isn't something I'm going to finish tomorrow. Besides, I know I can easily get $50 for the hogue stock and $150 for the TacSol barrel.
