I'm looking for a new stock for my 10/22. Right now I have the Houge rubberized on it, but it's to short on the length of pull. I'm looking for a target or tactical style stock that will also help be more accurate. I have a McMillian A4 on my .308, and would like something similar, possibly a Bell & Carlson for the ruger. Dose anyone have any reccomendations, or comments about what they use?

Re: 10/22 target or tactical stock

Thanks for all the links, but everytime I read a review on any stock it's the same thing. "My stock looks great haven't shot it though", or else says that it's more comfortable to shoot with. I'm looking to use this basically as a trainer rifle, and possibly shoot .22 comps with it.

I'll keep looking around, but I was looking for anyone that has used a specific stock and had any input of if they got better accuracy. I have an aftermarket match hammer and barrel on mine so far.

Re: 10/22 target or tactical stock

Take a look at Boyds Tacticool. I have shot it, I have it on 2 guns and either can shoot ragged 1 hole 10 shot groups at 50. I got my first one painted Black from Boyds for $92 and the second here:

A few areas need to be lightly sanded but geeezzzz for the price this stock is solid. Paint it, stain it or just leave it like it is.

Re: 10/22 target or tactical stock

I have a Tacticool stock on my 10/22. It's a nice stock, but the wood is soft. What starts out as a nice tight fit, loosens up over time with use. I ultimately wound up machining out 1/32" around my receiver and bedding the receiver with JB Weld. I also added a locking lug at the rear of the receiver and a recoil lug at the front, if for no reason other than to make sure that the action didn't move in the stock.

After having done the work, the rifle will put on average 63 out of 75 shots into a 1/2" target at 50 yards when engaging 75 separate targets. I'm using ARA target sheets.

Of course, my rifle isn't even close to being stock. The only Ruger part left on it is the receiver.

I have a bell & carlson heritage on my 10/22 and really like it. My rifle is very accurate but everything on it is aftermarket so I cant tell you its because of the stock.
