10/22 triggers

Was thinking of replacing the trigger in my 10/22. Has anybody mess with the Volquartsen trigger?
What kind of pull weight and are they crisp? or any better Ideas

I know nothing about Volquartsen. That being said, I have a Kidd trigger on my 10/22 and it is a sub moa rifle at 100 meters. The trigger breaks perfectly every time and is customizable. I highly recommend that you check their website. Also check it out on youtube. They will adjust the trigger to the weight that you specify before they ship it to you. It is one of the best triggers that I have ever used and I have a lot of nice sticks including ones with Jewels and others that have been redone by smiths. You can't go wrong with a Kidd.

Never heard of a kidd . I will look them up. How easy are they to adjust them yourself?

Kidd triggers are 2 stage triggers. Just figure out the weight that you want prior to ordering and have them do it. If you find that you don't like the weight when it arrives...you can easily adjust both stages to your liking. Also, check out their website and take a look at the ordering options for the trigger. I promise that you won't be disappointed.

Have both the Volquartsen and the Kidd on seperate rifles. The kid I have is set @ 9 ounces on the 1st stage and 3 ounces on the second. Hands down the Kidd is the best, completely redesigned the trigger. Ordered one and received it in about 5 days.

I also have a Kidd. Can't imagine a better trigger. Both stages adjust independently. Tony designed it from the ground up instead of trying to improve the Ruger design. He and Mary Pat are easy to deal with. He built an entire rifle for a bud that is crazy nice.

If you can get past the Sticker Shock you won't go wrong. BTW, I just sent mine back to have the straight trigger blade installed. It is more friendly to use with pistol grip type stocks. If you order a trigger from him consider the straight blade to start with.

The VQ is OK, but it's just a refinement of the original design.
For 1/3 the cost of the VQ, you can get a PowerCustom hammer and adjustable sear that will equal the performance of the VQ.

If you have an original trigger, it makes no sense to spend more than $70 on a trigger or trigger job unless you go ahead and drop the $300 for a KID. It's a completely different design, so it can be light and consistent.

I'm on the same page as Frog. I've had a lot of 10/22 triggers, from Kidd's stuff on down. FWIW, I would say either buy the PC kit, stone the factory stuff yourself, send it off to CPC/Nemo/etc, or buy the Kidd. The Kidd trigger has NO equal. None, nada, zip, no matter what marketing pony is telling you different. It's so good, it would rank up there with some of the best triggers designed by man.

If you aren't doing the Kidd, everything else is about the same. You can spend $200+ on a non Kidd trigger, but it won't be much better than an upgraded factory unit. I've been down this route.... Don't do it.

One thing that might be worth the money, is the RimfireTechnologies trigger (just the actual trigger itself). I actually really like the shape of it, especially compared to the factory unit.

I did the PC adjustable Hammer/Sear stoning everything else. Rimfirecentral big help. They have a 10/22 tips and tricks section.

Now PC makes an Adjustable Hammer/Sear Pack with Target Trigger

Back in 2000 I installed a Volquartsen HP Kit, along with a host of other aftermarket Volquartsen and Power Custom parts. For what you pay for the Volquartsen parts I had expected better finishing on them. I don't know if Volquartsen has changed their finishing procedures and QC, but the Volquartsen parts needed to be smoothed-out.

I polished everything down and had the steel parts matte hard chrome plated. It worked pretty well and had a pull of about 4 lbs. but still had too much travel for my taste.

I've never owned a Volquartsen TG2000, but have fired 10/22s' with TG2000s' installed. The TG2000 is a nice, smooth unit and can be set quite light, but it cannot be safely set as light as a Kidd. Also, they just don't break as clean as the Kidd. This may be due to the limitations of the Ruger 10/22's original design, on which all aftermarket 10/22 triggers, <span style="font-weight: bold">with the exception of the Kidd</span> are based.

The <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Kidd Two-Stage Trigger</span></span> was designed from the ground-up and is a much more elegant and refined trigger design. Not only can the Kidd be set very light for "benchrest", but it the trigger break is so consistent and clean that once you try a Kidd trigger you will be ruined for any other 10/22 trigger.

In the Kidd Two-Stage trigger, the "first stage" takes up the "slack", and the "second stage" is the let-off. The trigger weight can be front or rear loaded. The best thing to do is to talk to Tony Kidd and tell him what you will be using the rifle for. Tony will recommend what he thinks will work best for you, but he will leave the decision up to you (it is your money).

I had a VQ trigger, and it is allot nicer than the factory trigger, With that being said, I have changed it out to a KIDD and the KIDD is in a league all by it self. One of the nicest triggers on any firearm, that I have shot.

You will be very happy with one.

For what it is worth I went with a kidd Barrel which is super accurate as long as I due my part.

I can't comment on the Kidd triggers as I have never used one. But I do have several of the Volquartsen triggers and have never had any problems with any of them. For the money they are excellent.

Each to his own. When I was working on my 10/22 looking at the cost of high end parts someone wrote they spent over 1K on their 10/22 and it wouldn't shoot like annie. Made cents.

I think Kidd makes some great parts. I will order some. But I want to keep within the 10/22 budget. I can't spending more than 400 on the gun. Now that might change the more I start dialing the old ruger in.

No one besides me ever try the Jard? I have one in my 10/22 and it's about 1.5lbs. Crisp breaking but a little overtravel. I don't think it was as expensive as the Kidd but it is far better than the VQ or a worked farctory box. I only had a little fitting problem when I installed it but that was easily fixed. Just a thought.

FWIW my 10/22 that has all Kidd parts I have close to 1K in it but mine does out shoot my MPR 64(annie). Get a Kidd and get the best or like someone else said get a Power Custom hammer and adjustable sear. The rest is just a waste of money.

I have a Kidd too, and it's definitely one of, if not THE, nicest triggers I've ever fired. If you're looking for something to plink with, the VQ hammer package is a great deal, and it gives you a nice, light pull for a fraction the cost of the Kidd. If you're looking for something really amazing though and want to shoot little groups at long ranges, the Kidd is the ticket.

The Kidd is the tops, but it's $300+ so if you have money to burn on a 10/22 it doesn't bet any better for a trigger.

That said, for under $100 you can make a worlds of difference to the stock trigger. Either in $50 of parts and some polishing, or by sending it to someone to have them do the work for you. The VQ trigger is very good but for $200+ either of the above options if done correctly will get you the same results. The only advantage to the VQ is it's drop in ready to go, no waiting, no smithing etc.

Most guys I know (myself included) that have put a ton of $ into a 10/22 end up with something that's not built as well and does not shoot as well as getting a volquartsen built gun, and regret not just spending the money for something already built than putting $1000 of parts into a $179 gun. That or getting a hold of a steel threaded receiver, threaded barrel and building one from the ground up without a single ruger part in it.

If you are going to stay with ruger parts, buy the cheapest ruger 10/22 you can find. Buy $50 in trigger parts, and a $100 target barrel and maybe a $150 stock. You'll have less than $500 into it and it will be a pretty good probably great shooter. Throwing any more money at a 10/22 than $500 you mise well buy a volquartsen or go all custom with a threaded receiver/barrel/etc.

That is kinda what I was thinking about the value of the 10/22. It is not worth spending to much into. They do make customs for around 1000.

How did the build turn out?

Just finished building a 10 22 from scratch. Used a KID receiver, bolt and cocking handle. A VQ trigger group and a heavy Bergara barrel. For the stock I used a southpaw thumb hole Boyd, and for the scope, I'm using a Vector Optics tactical scope/laser.

On the KID receiver, I love the way the picatinny rail extends over the barrel. By the way, gunkings.com sells KID's products at the same price, but FREE shipping.

There is a outfit on the east coast that will blueprint the 10/22 action and trigger for less than you will pay for the parts from VQ. I think the VQ parts are overrated and overpriced. I also had a Kid trigger it was nice.

I sent my triggers to TTShooter for his tune up.
My rifle has:
TTShooter trigger
GM bbl.
Randy @CPC bolt work.
Randy chamered and installed the bbl.
shoots 1/2" or less @ 50yds with Wolf MT ammo.
A little over $500 invested.
My Jim Clark rifle will outshoot it but costs $750.

Newbie here, but longtime member on RFC. Great site here guys!
Depending on what pull weight you want, Hornet is another option. I have a Hornet trigger group that breaks at 2.5 lbs. They also have a 2-stage trigger that breaks at 1.9 I think. Its no KID, but an option if your on a budget. They are 90.00 for a complete trigger group.

From what i have read on rimfire central its no better than what you can do with a power custom or volquarsten hammer and sear. I have no personal experience with it though.
