That may not be true for a 308. If you are shooting heavies (175 to 190gn) you'll need 34 to 36 MOA from a 100yd zero to get to 1000. If you are shooting the 155gn class bullets you'll only need 29 to 31 depending on how hard you can drive them. My 8-32BR is on a 30MOA base and it's still 8MOA off of the bottom at 100 yds leaving me 42MOA to play with. If I had a 12-42 with only 40MOA I wouldn't be able to get above the bottom of the target stand at 1000 yds.
Curious, what .223 are you shooting at 1000?
