Hello everyone. I know this has been over done before. But I am looking to run the above buwets with the longest barrel life I can.

a 109 -110 fb looks the way to do this. Given how hard it currently is to get new barrels. I am looking for this one to last as long as I can.

I understand that the 183 fb is sammi . Is it at all possible to , push back factory eldm rounds to suit this fb .Provided you pulled some buwets and worked up the loads to ensure no higher pressures/compressed loads, were being reached. It would be nice to run the 105 bthp as well and the 183 just seems like it will be done at 1200. I have heard guys getting over 2000 with the 109 fb.

I guess what I should do is run both. run a 183 for factory hunting set up and order another for a 109 set up.

But I am just curious as for the reasons why one could not press back factory rounds.

Pushing bullets back in factory ammo and shooting them in a very short freebore should spike pressures quite a bit. Seems like the elevated pressure, even if it wont go kaboom, will kill the barrel faster not slower.

I think barrel life has less to do with where the lands are in proximity to the chamber, and more to do with those lands being eroded to the finish of a sewer pipe. If barrel life is such a concern, find another cartridge.

Thanks for the reply. I figured it could mess the pressures up. It would also do untold things to the necks. I would imagine. I think in the current climate I will get a second barrel ordered. In a year or two I should have the next one. I can dabble with reloading with the next one. I’m yet to reload so it’s all learning space for me

Is there something special about the barrels youre ordering that it takes a year and a half to deliver? Should take a few weeks to a few months.

I am more concerned with keeping it in tune for longer. And having the option to be able to and not have the rounds to far out of the neck. But I will just get another barrel on order by the time it gets here. Then I can worry about this stuff. Constantly planning ahead. And being able to put my hands on what I need is my real concern

When a barrel is "done" comes down to how it's shot. Not so much the freebore as you can toast a short freebore with a low round count by shooting fast loads in shorter times also.

If you plan to shoot 108 ELDs I wouldn't go with a .109 freebore. That bullet will be jammed pretty deep into the case. With the .183 freebore the factory ammo is only about .020" off the lands. I did two barrels for my 6 Creed as I have one to shoot factory ammo and one to shoot 110 ATips which I went with a shorter freebore. I will have to look at what it was but I think it was about the .130 area.

And pulling factory ammo bullets and working up a load is a pain in the ass. Just get brass and bullets and work up your own load if you go the short freebore route. If you plan to shoot factory then just go SAAMI freebore.

I’m in Australia . 12 months minimum. I’ve had an action on order from the good ol USA now for over a year , first its get in line then it’s the Biden export ban now that’s over it’s still 4 month wait and still no answers

There are people here (in the US) that think stuff takes forever to get. In some cases it does, but in other cases theyre just ordering from the wrong places. Like ordering barrel blanks direct from the manufacturer then sending to a gunsmith vs ordering from a vendor who stocks and finish machines them.

I see if you could please check that would be great as you’ve got experience with the rounds I wana run. Then I can order a reamer too

I checked and it's actually a .150 and works great with the 110 ATip. Being only .033 off SAAMI you may be able to seat a factory 108s a little deeper and run with them but have never done it personally and would want to make sure it's safe first so maybe contact Hornady.

i have few aussie mates bought hardy barrel from us in nz much quicker
Hardy barrels are awesome, I burnt out an IBI in 6BRA and replaced with a Hardy. took the same load out to break it in an shot consistently 1/2MOA and even a slight bit faster.
Another option for OP is a Lothar Walther barrrel from T-Bone Shipwrighting. Tom does very stellar work and often has most calibers/contours available and more than happy to do prefits.

Go saami..
i got a secret squirrel reamer.. 275 nk, 135fb, etc. even loading my own using heavies, I've really come to like the saami 183 or w/e freebore... it works fine with all the 90+ grain projos I've tried.
listen to Rob. load in book values and don't fire more than 3 or 5 rounds before cooling and it'll be alright.
