I got the idea pretty clearly, having lived through the period when the commercials were running nonstop, e.g.:

<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FDTPWgGfunM"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FDTPWgGfunM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"> </embed></object>

Put this way, there are lots of "guys," but few "men." The trick is to find the nobodies who can become somebodies and inculcate a culture of responsibility and leadership. It isn't exclusive to the military, but it is an integral part of their training. I can only imagine what manner of stuff modern culture is dragging in to mix with the fine traditions, but recognize that this admixture is an ongoing process.

Re: I need SOMEBODY to be SOMEBODY...

I am old I went through basic during Be all you can be.

I remember:

"Shut the fuck up, I'm fucking this cow your just holding the tail"

"Son, I'm gonna use your own dick beaters to beat you"

"Shut those pussy lips up"

None of those were use on me. I just remember those being funny as shit. I was always to busy being in the front leaning rest to say anything to anybody.
