So watched this movie set in 1976. French sniper team does a 5 man simultaneous shot. There was 1 scope with mildots, a couple with some sort of tree reticle. And a couple with some sort of inverted quasi tree reticle. When did the first mildot and or tree type reticles come out?

Not sure on the details but the rifle is an frf1. Lots of them were converted to frf2.

Not an expert but I think the Mil Dot reticule came along about the same time as the M40 A1.Possibly debuted in the Unertl 10X USMC Sniper scope. Post Vietnam mid to late 70's.
Some of the experts will chime in soon and get you a far better timeline.
