155 grain load data

Re: 155 grain load data

As far as using the same powder charges you will be fine. You might have to vary the powder charge to find an accuracy node for a different bullet. The ballistics (elevation drops because of differing B.C.'s) of the different bullets are probably going to vary as you advance farther out in range.

Have shot a few groundhogs with the 155 Scenars and as expected there was absolutely no expansion. They would be a good choice for predator pelt hunters but if you're looking for maximum expansion and explosive results I would stay with the AMAX. Far more dramatic impact and you can bet they won't make it back to their hole.

Re: 155 grain load data

I've swapped the Amax & scenar with no ill results...

My 155 Scenar load is:

47.5gr Varget
Win/BHA Match brass
fed 210
155 scnear
loaded to 2.4 from ogive (approx 2.86 OAL)

Standard Disclaimer:

This load is VERY safe in MY RIFLE... It may NOT be safe in YOURS... Please work up

Re: 155 grain load data

Alright, thats what I will do, the reason I ask is because I haven't located load data specifically on the sencars, but I have data for the 155 Amax and Sierra 155's. The load data is different, but not by a ton. I will probably work up from about 44 grains to be safe.

I kind of figured I wouldnt get a rapid expansion round out of the sencars, if the 155 weight proves to be good in the rifle I may load some 155 amax just for a bit more "explosive" results.

Re: 155 grain load data

I am shooting 155 Amax MOLY in a TRG-22

Lapua Brass
CCI BR2
47.5 Varget
~2880fps

This is the same load I used with the SILVER Scenars. (sometimes 47.8, but I get some bullet deformation with my Hornady dies)

Amazing accuracy and terminal performance (bang flop on 3 out of 4 coyotes, one coyote made it a couple of yards)
The Scenar load failed to anchor 2 different coyotes.
Scenars from a .338 Lapua also gave dismal performance on a coyote.

I will still use the Scenars for 1000 yard matches but all hunting and shorter range competition will be the Amax.

Also-the 168 and 178 Amax both provided consistent 1/2-3/4 moa groups but the 155s are performing MUCH better!

Re: 155 grain load data

Worked up the Sencars over varget in Lapua Brass and CCI 200's 45.6 grns gave me .75 @ 100. 45.3 gave a group in the .4's @ 100. Above and beyond the whole range of powder weights shot better than the 175's and 168's I have tried. 45.6 gave me 2900 fps with no pressure signs. Have a few more tricks to tinker with it a bit and will prolly push it until I get pressure signs.

BTW, both charges listed above are over max, work up with caution. ....
