175 GR in a 12 twist 308 ?

Re: 175 GR in a 12 twist 308 ?

Screaming speed is also not needed. The M14 guys started shooting essentially equal "173s" (mine weigh 174+) in 12-twist 22-inch barrels starting in like 1959 with experimental ammo. The velocity spec was 2550 fps +/- 30 fps, measured at 26 yards, which about equals 2590 at the muzzle at the middle of the spec.

They worked to 1,000, even a sea level on cold days.

is there a lot of difference between a 175 smk and 190 smk in a 1:12 308 ? under what condition would the latter be preferred as it does seem that the 175 is more popular ?

My Savage Tactical, 1-12, 24" loves 175's with 43.9 gr. of 4064.
I use mostly Lake City brass and Fed primers, getting 2660 +-30 measured 15 ft. from muzzle.
I do seat kind of long though (2.875" OAL) Still .025 from lands.
