I was wondering if anyone tried the two or possibly compared them? I'm trying to decide and i keep going back and forth. Whats the difference between ease of loading,do they have to be close or on the lands? also would 2000MR be a good powder to push them out of a 20 inch barrel?

I am starting on some 178 eld m's right now and through load development they all seem to group in the same place. The first 10 shots at 100yds were in .5g steps up to 45g of varget, it was a 1.2" group

Next i went from 43.2 to 45g in
.3g increments, 21 shots fell into an overall 1.3" group.

43.8-44.1g shared 2 holes so i split the difference and loaded up 50rds to see how they do.

So far accurate, but i am just getting started.

Win brass,
Cci200
Varget
Oal at 2.83 to just kiss the lands

Update

Upon closer inspection i think i had a little gas leaking at 45g of powder,

i ran into pressure between 44.7 and 45g,

45g is too hot!

Haven't tried the RDFs, but 178 ELD-M over 40.0 of IMR4064 shoots well out of my 20" GII hunter. Chrono said 2450. Have not had a chance to play with seating depth. My gun has a really long throat. I measured it once but the bullet was barely into the neck of the case.

So here's what the 175 rdf does in my savage 12fvss. Stock gun mounted in a bell and Carlson medalist. Shot from prone no rear bag. It's pretty comparable to th 178 hornady bthp I have been running but cheaper. I'm sure it drops less out farther though and bucks wind way better. I haven't been able to try that load any further out yet. Will post bk when I get the data

cheers, Andy

Can't see in pic details but first white ring outside bull is 4inches OD. Load is 5x win brass, 175rdf, win Lr primer, 43.5 grain imr 4895. Think velocity was right abouts 2670fps. Es of 12 or so. I know I can refine that a bit.

I run the 175 RDF in my trued Rem 700 with a 26" Benchmark. LC cases, 43.3 gr Varget, CCI BR2s gives me 2715 fps with a SD of 4 and ES of 11 (yesterday). 5 rounds in the mid 0.5 moa is the norm. Supersonic out to 1000. It's a great load that hammers. My partner in the RTC runs the same. I tried working up a load with the RDFs in my backup rifle (Factory Rem 700 with 20" barrel) and straight up couldn't get them to shoot. It printed a couple decent 3 round groups at 200 but once I went to 5 rounds at 100, it was like a shotgun. The same rifle shoots the 178 Amax into .75 moa 5 round groups. I've got some 178 BTHPs in bounds to work up a load since the Amax are discontinued.

The 178 BTHP works very well. I shoot them out to 1000 from my 20" .308. But you might want to try these too
