All,
I'm having some accuracy / consistency issues with my rifle, and wanted to ask whether anyone here has any advice or suggestions regarding scope mounting. My set up is:
Sako Quad heavy barrel
Harris bipod
Falcon Optics Menace 5.5-25 x 50 (Falcon Optics)
Remington Accutip 17gr
Initially the groups were inconsistent, which I put down to having recently changed brands of ammuntion. That has largely cleared up after a good clean and bedding back in and I have removed and refitted the scope to the correct torque with a dab of threadlock to prevent any creeping. In order to ensure the scope is set straight (ie both horizonal and vertical before zeroing) I set the rifle up on a level surface (measured with spirit level) and then the horizontal cross hair to the spirit level on a fence post, by rotating the scope a tiny bit within the rings.
The odd thing is that it doesn't 'look' right when taking a shot. I'm pretty good with things by eye, and although the ground was level and the horizontal hair matches the spirit level it looks wrong.
Does any one else have a similar problem, or is there a better way to ensure that everthing is square before zeroing?
Any advice appreciated.
