Got this the day after my wifes little dog got attacked in the yard. He's fine now however this ones give out. .17Hmr from a savage93, about 65 yards. The little red spot between the eyes is the entrance, there was no exit hole .

Nice job! To those thinking of the 17hmr, make sure your hit is precise otherwise it wont work so well.

That was a 17gr vmax. I don't think it would work on a chest shot maybe with a different bullet but thats all I have (vmax) I can't stand to see an animal suffer and I hate to have to track one down. This was an easy head shot as she was looking right at me. Obviously there was a lot of damage as those vmax really blow up, there was no exit would.

I have found 100yrds to be a reasonable range with the 17hmr but like ghogs said shot placement is important. That being said they will floor them dead right there with the hollow points to the head. Rthur
