I will be attending a marksmanship school in April need to load a fair amount of 300WM for it. The rifle is a McMillan with a 24" 1:12 twist barrel. The only Target bullets I have been able to find are 185 grain Berger Hybrids and Berger recommends a 1:11 or faster twist barrel. I have tested 20 rounds at 100 meters and 5 shot groups are .5" MOA or less with a chronograph reading averaging around 2830 fps. We will be shooting beyond 1000 yards and won't have the opportunity to test these bullets for stability at longer ranges. I have posed the question to Berger's tech folks but they are currently backed up. Any thoughts on whether the bullets will stabilize due to the higher velocities with a 300 WM? My other option would be to load either 175 or 185 Hunting VLD's.

what is the farthest distance you can test? The reason I as is because at 100, you're getting good groups. If it were me, I'd go to 600 and see how they do in my gun, if they shoot in the 3" range, I'd say they're good.

I've shot the 185 VLD's and they shot extremely well in the 12" twist in my 700P...if I recall, it was 42.5 varget shot well. (been too long since I loaded them up). I know I shot RL-15 but don't recall the load...I want to say 43.5 but that may have been my 175's. Doesn't really matter, the 185vld's shot very well...only had a chance to shoot at 600.(could easily hit softball size groups)

But I do shoot 2 .300 win mags. 1 custom and one 5r mil spec with a few upgrades. Mine are both 1:10. Can't go wrong with h1000 and a 208 amax which actually shot awesome in my .308. It's a GA P Crusader (1:11.25) it shot them so good that if I had more freebore and a longer barrel that's what I'd be running in ftr
