Has anyone used Lapua's 185 grain pills for .308 with a 24" 1:10 twist barrel? I ran out of the 155 Scenar's, and was just given a full box of the 185's.

I hope to use the powder and primers I have on hand, N140, Fed 210 primers, and Lapua Brass. I hope to have the same amount of luck with the 185's that I did with the 155's. However, I have a match coming up, and don't have any 155's. Any info would be great.

I will be shooting 300, 400 and 600 yards in the F T/R match. I'm really not worried about the 300 yard relay. PM's are welcome.

Thanks,
Spotter

VV-140 might be a little quick for the 185s.

Savage 10FP 26" 1:10".

Tikka T3 Tac. 24"

40gr N140
Coal 72mm

That is 100m load (slow), to note 185 scenar has tangent ogive and is much more forgiving of seating depth than 155 scenar is. So for those just wanting to shoot instead of finetuning it's probably one of the best bullets outhere.

Thanks guy's, this info helps. I only have N540, N550 and N140 powders. I was given some 175 grain sierra matchkings last night. I am going to try to load 175 and 185's and see what works best with the powder I have. And shoot them this weekend.

I jump the lands .010, Lapua's seem to shot better in my gun jumping into the lands vs. soft setting.

I shot a few loads, 175 MKS and 185 Scenars, just to try them out.
I shot two 5 shot groups @ 200 yards with N550 @ 43.5 grains = .75 inches
This load had a LO vel @ 2546fps, HI Vel @ 2574fps AVG. Vel 2557fps. SD was 28 and SD was 11, I liked this load.

2 more groups @ 44 grains = 1.00 inches

2 more gruops @ 44.5 grains = 1.375 inches

2 groups with the 185 Scenars @ 44 grains = 1.875, I think it will like N140 better, than N550.

I think, I am going to keep doing more work with the 175 MKS, until the 155 Scenars can be had. The 155's Scenars work the best with many groups in the .50 inche range @ 200 yards. A few .375 groups, @ 100 not many but I have done it. I just love doing new load testing before a big match! Just kidding, it suck's......

I used 42.5gr Varget, neck sized Lapua brass, Fed 210m, 185 Berger HPBT, 2.92" coal. No idea on velocity, but it gave sub .5" for 5 at 100y from my Sav 10FP.

+1 on this load. I found out today that 43 grains is a tad too hot for me but I am using Federal Nato brass and BR2 primers and the 42.5 produced a 15 shot group slightly larger than the size of a quarter at 100 yards.

The 43 grains was giving a hard opening bolt.
