So not a sniper rifle, so wasn't sure where to post it, but it is a old design. Was out shooting some gas guns at some gongs and at the end of the day decided to pull out a browning 1886 45-70 saddle ring carbine that was made in 1992 in Miroku japan.
The gong is 12 inch diameter and is 847 yards away. I was shooting some stout 405 grain soft point hand loads, not sure on velocity since this is the second time I've shot this rifle.
I set the ladder sight to 850 yards and had to aim at the small transition of dirt to grass that the gong was sitting in just above a snow drift, since I couldn't make out the gong with open sights.
First shot was 1 mil high and .5 mil to the right according to my spotter . He had me aim at the left side of the snow drift and that put the second round about .5 mil left of the target, so 3 rd round was aimed dead center of the drift and hit the 12 inch gong.. probably dumb luck but it made my day.
The steel butt pad is rather abusive when shooting prone.
