I posted on the Scout site a year or so ago about my wife's grandfather's old collection. He has two 1903a3 Springfield's, a 1917 Enfield, several old Remmys, Win 70's and an M1...Not to mention an original 20x Unertl.

Everything still has original bills of sale from the post WWII war Dept. Problem is, he shot most of these at Camp Perry in the 50's & 60's so they are sporterized.

Where is the best place to start for original restoration? I am interested in building a WWI era 1903 with bayonet etc. All parts, barrels etc are still here, except for the original stocks.

Any guidance on books, resto businesses, parts suppliers to get me started would be appreciated. Thanks!

You need to visit the CMP Forums/Site:

    www.odcmp.org

Go to the Bolt gun section of the forum and you'll get all the information you could want. They are both fired in the CMP Vintage Rifle Matches. The A3 in the Springfield Category and the M1917 in the Military (other) category.

There are several good books about these rifles, we all have our favorites. Go to Amazon and take your pick. I do recommend the "US Army Technical Manual, TM 12-70, US Rifle Cal 30 1903, A1, A3 and A4 Tech. Manual.

    https://www.amazon.com/U-S-Rifles-M...F8&qid=1493049744&sr=8-1&keywords=m1903+Rifle

That is a must regardless what other books you get.

Now take those rifles out and shoot them in some CMP Vintage Rifle Matches.
