I just finished a build off of a 09 Argentine Mauser. I just had a Douglas XX barrel in 308 installed and bolt bent. I have been collecting brass at the range for a while now to reload with. I got to the range today for the first time and the reloads I just made will not chamber. When you push the bolt forward and turn it down, it stops about half way. It stops hard. I tried to give the bolt a nudge and nothing. So I get some American Eagle match ammo and no issues.

I get home and start measuring cases and the only difference seems to be in the rim, maybe .010 or so. I dont think that is the issue though. I even ran the brass I just fired through the resizing die to see if that was the issue and its not. All other measurements are essentially the same. I measure the case mouth, body just under the shoulder and the base. The only other thing I can think of is that the shoulder is bottoming in the chamber and not allowing the bolt to go into battery. Any ideas????

Will the bolt fully close with no brass or anything in the chamber? Who installed the barrel? If the bolt wont close period I would try and find a set of go or no go gauges and check the headspace.

OAL.
Your bullets are probably not seated deep enough.

Even if OAL seems to be ok, you need to consider the ogive.
not uncommon with amax or bullets with tangent ogive.

Thanks guys. I figured it out. The FL sizing die was not set down far enough, so the shoulders were not getting sized. I dropped it down and they chamber now.

I wouldnt put that crap in my rifle for love nor money. Brass is relatively cheap. 308 & 223s are fired from just about every semi-auto imaginable. Sloppy chambers, fluted chambers. No telling how many times its been fired or how it's been reloaded.

Hell I wouldnt even pick up range brass for a $100 Mosin.

Get some "NEW" Winchester or Remington brass, reload it, and I think you'll cure your problem.

I don't even shoot surplus ammo in my rifles.
