Me and a couple friends are planning to go to camp perry next July to shoot in the 1911 match. There are a few rules on the handgun like no beavertail safety, 4lbs+ trigger, 5in barrel, no wrap around grips, and a few other things that seem mostly cosmetic. I really do not know a whole lot about them and my searching is not really coming up with alot of info on what gun to get. I saw that the Colt Gold Cup National Match was originally created for this comp as a over the counter option but come factory now with grips that are illegal in the rule book. My question is which direction should I go?
The Colt?
a custom fitted semi complete frame and finish parting it out? a Springfield National Match with the beavertail swapped for a standard style safety?
There are even a few old guns on gunbroker of the colt that look promising...
Maybe a new Remington R1 with a few upgrades?
I just really dont know which way to go and if anyone could shed some light on the subject it would be most appreciated...
Also where do you find a good smith for a 1911? I know who for rifles but 1911s are a little more specific right?
Thanks
