I just put a new Ed Brown Magwell on my 1911. After that, the 1911 will fire with the grip saftey disengaged ( no pressure on it what so ever ) and the thumb safety disengaged. The thumb safety still works fine, the weapon will not fire with it engaged.I put the mainspring back in properly.I just bought the 1911 today. Gun Show in town this weekend, or I can take it to my Dept. Armorer. I think the sear spring could be bent any ideas????????

Re: 1911 Gunsmith Help

The new mag well is not letting the grip safety swing out enough to engage the trigger bow.

You need to file the ears on the bottom of the grip safety and the area of the mag well that they contact until the safety can travel enough to block the trigger.

PM me if this doesn't make any sense to you.

Re: 1911 Gunsmith Help

Got to check out the gunsmith today at the gun show. There was a problem with the sear spring that I some how did not place it in the correct position as I thought I had. Easy Fix works like it should now. SO I feel like a total dumb ass, but a happy one, lol. Thanks guys for posting on here and giving me a hand I appreciate it.

Re: 1911 Gunsmith Help

is that guy called the 1911 armourer? he comes to my area too. used him one time. last time too. i wanted one of the little flared magwell deals that you mount under the studs for the grip screws. he dremeled them open in the front so they slid over the studs, put my hogue grips back on and handed me my 1911. i looked at it and said "what about this gap now that you put that thing on here" he hands me 2 foam cut outs shaped like the grips and says "cut these and stick them under there" and turns away. he did something else to but somehow he managed to destroy my slide release plunger so i had to replace that. i wont tell you what i paid for the mainspring housing and flared well extension plus labor, and for the work done, i got butt secksed

Re: 1911 Gunsmith Help

your lucky. this guy seems like he knows stuff, but the 1911 armourer, (is that spelled right?) wasnt too impressive in my case. i think i did kinda what you did the first time i took my kimber apart. i got scared, lol. slowed down and took it back apart and slowly started over. got it all working the second time. love the 1911s
