Suppressors 1911 Purchase! Should I or no?

Well I was looking to pickup a handgun and ran across a PX9109LP. It has under 200 rounds on it. Is this a good deal if I can pick it up for 550.00? Will be my first handgun. I was looking to get a HK USP 40 or a Sig 229 but thought this was not too bad.

If you have to ask if buying an $800 gun for $550 is a good deal, you probably aren't qualified to evaluate its condition.

If what you really want is a double action/double stack gun in .40, though, you should probably pass on the American iron and buy what you really want.

Centerfire Systems had some USP 9mms this week for $425. Maybe you should look around and see what kind of deals are available.

they're like potato chips, once you get one, you can't stop...I have a few too many. And its hard to shoot anything else after you've had a well tuned 1911 trigger - it ruins other pistol triggers.

They're not perfect, and may need some stroking out of box. I've regretted ever selling my first loaded. (another loaded arrives today)

Warranty along with customer service is spectacular. yes, in spite of what warranty card says life time warranty follows gun.

You have to wonder why there are so many 1911 diehards.

Well I bought it, and shot it, and now I don't care to shoot a 40 Cal Sig 229 anymore. :-( This gun shoots so good, and is so much more forgiving than the Baretta 92 or Sig 229 (both former carry guns for Coast Guard). The 1911 actually was a Coast Guard carried sidearm back in the 80's i reckon, im sure someone will chime in here, but when I started carrying in 2002 it was the ole Baretta 9mm's.

Thanks guys, now i need one to use as a personal carry. Which model do you folks suggest? This one I got is a tad big.

I tried to be a Glock guy. I really did. I've owned at least four of them. I just couldn't make them work. The M&P works. Still not as good as a 1911....but either way, I could never make the Glock work.

My advice if this is a carry weapon is to go for the Glock or HK. If you have a carry weapon then buy it because that is a good price for sure.

I would love it if the Glock worked for me, as they are cheaper than HKs. Just cant get over the grip issue I have with them. They are reliable, though I think the HKs I have are more reliable and shoot better, but not enough to justify the difference in price if the Glock worked well for me.

I love the 1911 and have owned several but the various reliability problems they have keep me from using them outside of a range gun. I haven't shelled out the money for Wilson or Nighthawk and if I could would probably be comfortable carrying it, but doubt it would ever outperform my HK45 except in concealability.

I'm a long time Glock guy, and always will be, but a 1911 is my all time favorite, nothing in this world of hinged triggers can compete with JBM's straight pull design.

If you like your 1911 and want a carry piece, may I suggest a SA micro .45. I have had mine for a month or so and LOVE it!

I hesitate to respond as this sounds a little like trolling, but seriously if you think bore axis is the most important aspect of a carry weapon, or that the bore axis of the HK makes it unsuitable as a combat weapon then you aren't being objective.

Perhaps we should carry a 40 oz Desert Eagle in .22LR since it will have less muzzle flip than a Glock 19!

Don't worry we don't get you Glock guys either. What kills me with Glocks is what we call a trigger they pawn off as a safety. Not saying it isn't a good pistol, but I prefer something with a true mechanical safety. All the safeties on a 1911 are instinctive to disable just by holding the pistol properly. I also hate the grip angle on Glocks, it just doesn't point as naturally as a 1911. Let's see if Glocks are as popular when they are 99 years old. JMB had more than one design that has stood the test of time, M2 Ma Duece .50. I bet that one will see service till we're all dead and gone. I also like having a good trigger on a pistol. That in its self leads to much better accuracy.

HK makes a fine machine, but shooting them sucks. Bore axis is too high on all their polymer sidearms, and recoil is ponderous. Glock or Smith and Wesson M&P for concealed carry self defense, and a nice 1911 for pride of ownership. I'm waiting (hoping) that LWRCI makes a 1911 next year, but if they don't then I'm going to get an Ed Brown again.

Actually I used to carry a P7. It's a joy to carry, it just sucks to shoot. Blowback is not ideal. The slide just cycles too fast. It's a tough gun to shoot. It's the perfect size, though, and I loved the trigger. HK no longer makes it, thus my statement.

The Glock has three different "mechanical" safties, all of which are "instinctively" disabled by pulling the trigger.

The Glock lacks in a lot of areas, but safety isn't among them.

Are you serious?

The P30 is one of the softest shooting 9mm's I've shot. I'd put it up against a G34.

Bore axis really isn't that big of a deal. It all comes down to how your manage recoil. If you're a weaver shooter and you try to fight recoil...you'll notice more flip. If you unlock your elbows and ride the recoil out, flip is almost non-existent.

I don't know why you suggest that "shooting them sucks". If it weren't for cost and the trigger breaking a hair further to the rear, I'd be replacing my G19 with a P30 (V1 LEM).

Saying that bore axis isn't a big deal doesn't make it so. The fact is that physics is reality, and a gun with a higher bore axis than necessary will never be as soft shooting as one with a lower bore axis. Other features may override that choice, but a low bore axis, is, IMO, an absolutely necessary, non-negotiable condition for a fighting handgun of any kind.

Wow really stroking the trigger there. I guess with enough practice anything is possible. Are these new HK pistols way better than the old USPs? I could never shoot my USP 45 fullsize worth a damn. Once I got a 1911 my USP collected dust.

I've shot the never HK .45 and the USP. I shot better with the non USP model, and ended up hating the USP with a passion. I'm not sure how to explain it, you'd have to shoot both to understand.

Ok. If you're that critical on bore axis height, and it's impact on your performance...what are some of your scores on the IDPA classifier , The Hackathorn Standards, The FAST drill , and the 10-8 Pistol Qual?

I've done a 268 on the Hack, a 5.24 on the FAST, and a 52 on the 10-8 (5 sec par time). It's been a while since I shot the Hack, but I'd probably be shooting it a little better these days.

I'll put my splits with my Glock right up against my splits with a P30. I've shot them side by side, and they both shoot well. There is more to felt muzzle flip than bore axis height.

All other thing equal, a lower bore is desired. However, it doesn't make or break a pistol, as you seem to suggest.

It does for me, because I'm not going to stack the deck against me before I even draw the gun.

Whatever drills you're talking about, the shooter makes much more of a difference than the gun. Any drill is going to be a test of the shooter more than equipment.

I'm willing to bet that whatever my times, however, I'd be faster with a gun with a lower bore axis than one with a higher bore axis, all else equal.

I'm actually faster with a single action, major PF gun than I am with a striker fired 9mm--on the timer--in the same classifier. I have verified that.
